Looking at Beautyrest Black Series 3 queen firm. I need good edge and motion control, and like a firm mattress. Had bad experineces with bed-in-a-box so not looking to repeat that.
First of all I’ll say you’d be surprised how many well known brands are shipped in boxes, and that does not mean they’re structurally inadequate, it just means that’s how the companies like to ship them to save on shipping costs. They have the huge machines that are able to compress the mattresses and put them into boxes which doesn’t hurt the mattresses as long as they’re not kept in the boxes for too long.
The issue is that there are SO MANY brands and a lot of them are underperforming mattresses. There are still many which are very good beds and I own multiple that came in boxes.
Now let’s look at the builds of the beautyrest vs the black oasis:
The black oasis uses 2.5" of 4lb memory foam quilted into the cover. From what I have learned, quilting memory foam into a cover of a mattress is a more difficult process than quilting standard soft foam. Having that thick of a layer of a high density memory foam quilted into the top is a trademark of very high quality.
Then you have another 1.5" of 4lb density layered on top of 1.5" of latex. The latex will add some responsiveness to the experience.
And for the base there are 1050 8" coils in a queen. That is a high coil count. And they offer a 25 year warranty.
There is not a chance I would ever pick the beautyrest over that black oasis. You are looking at an extremely well built mattress.
Any other suggestions of what I should look at?
It’s really hard for me to suggest something other than the black oasis because of how it’s built. The price is still in the higher range, but if you can afford it or get a zero interest payment plan somehow it looks like it’d be worth it. This is something you’re going to be sleeping on for years and worth investing in.
You could look at the
In firm if you’re really sure you like firm mattresses, the firm model would be about as firm as the black oasis you were looking at and it’s only $1200 for a queen. It’s near the top rated mattress on naplab.com
I have the medium version, love it. Yes it does come in a box but the build is high quality.
Still, the black oasis looks fantastic. I just messaged them to ask about the stitching and apparently not only is that memory foam stitched into the top, they stitch actual wool directly into the top of the cover on top of the memory foam.
I’d really have a hard time recommending a different bed than that. I think it’s worth the money.
