Anyone tried the Brooklyn Bedding 5lb Memory Foam Topper

My wife and I are looking for a memory foam topper to help “soften” up our too firm coil mattress. I don’t know that “soften” is really the right term, as we still want something with a medium-firm to firm feel, but just with a little more contouring and give. My wife is ~115 lbs and sleeps on her side and stomach, while I am ~185 lbs and sleep on my back and stomach. I searched through all of the recommended vendors and the Brooklyn Bedding 5lb Memory Foam Topper is by far the best price I found, $179 for a 2" King, which is about $100 less than almost everywhere else. I’m wondering if anyone here has tried this topper and could provide any feedback on it. We have tried and returned 2 memory foam toppers in the past month, a 4" 4lb Serta topper from Overstock which was way too soft and we sank into too much, as well as a Sleep Innovations 3" Wave topper (1.5" gel foam layer + 1.5" Luratex foam layer) from Amazon, which was still too soft (I obviously hadn’t found this site yet prior to these purchases).

I was also curious if anyone had any information on the Bi-Pedic topper from Selectabed, as I live just up the road from them and therefore could potentially try it out before making a purchase. Not sure the cost of this one, as it’s not listed on the website, but if anyone has tried this one out I’d be interested in your feedback as well.

Hi cchili00,

I think you are wise to consider the thickness of a topper just as much as you consider the type of material and its softness

I don’t have any personal experience with the BB memory foam topper but they could probably tell you how it compared with other memory foams in terms of temperature response, response time, softness (although this changes with memory foam in response to temperature, humidity, and the length of time it is compressed) and temperature and ventilation.

The bi-pedic topper is certainly an unusual option with its two layers and with memory foam that is softer than the norm on one side and firmer than the norm on the other. The good news with this one as well as the BB topper is that they have a good return policy which reduces the risk of an online purchase that you can’t test ahead of time.

All of this is probably self evident and I know doesn’t answer your real question about “what will they feel like” so hopefully someone who has tried either will see your post and provide some feedback although comfort and “feel” are very subjective and can vary widely depending on the mattress under your topper and the many variables in body type and sleeping styles between people so your experience with either may be very different from someone else.

Phoenix

Thanks Phoenix, agree we will probably just pull the trigger on one of these and, like you say, both have good return policies, so no real risk there. I spoke with BB and they said the 5lb topper was their firmest, plus the price is hard to beat, so I’m leaning towards that one at the moment. But if anyone actually owns one of these and cares to comment I would still be interested to hear their thoughts.
