I had previously purchased two mattresses and returned them. The Polysleep was the first and aggravated my sciatica. I felt like I had sunk past the top layer and was laying on the firm foam at the bottom. After returning that I bought a Novosbed. It was even worse for my back. I did receive excellent customer support from Goodmorning.com (I am in no way affiliated with them) so I decided to try another mattress from the same company. I ordered an Apollo and it arrived 2 weeks ago today.
I’m 6’2 and 240 pounds. My wife is about 5’5" and thinner.
The setup was the same as any other bed-in-a-box mattress. It’s heavy, etc. The box was ripped when it arrived but there was enough plastic around the mattress that there was no damage.
The mattress had a bit of a smell but no more than any other I’ve seen. After a couple of days, the odour was gone. I’m guessing that the smell is from the adhesive and not the foam used in construction.
The mattress is difficult to describe - it is firm yet feels very soft. The top layer of foam feels very dense and is a slowly reacting foam. It takes a second to sink into it and when you move there’s a slight delay before it bounces back into shape. If you have difficulty moving around on a mattress this one will be a bit more difficult than some but it isn’t a problem for me.
The top foam is very soft and feels plush and luxurious. It’s a wonderful feeling. I sink in a bit with my hips but I don’t sink in everywhere. It’s kind of a cross between feeling on top of the mattress and feeling in the mattress. If you press on the top layer or try to squeeze it, it feels really nice. I wish they’d make a pillow using the same foam.
I was a bit skeptical about the claims of the cooling ability and the copper infusion. I normally have to kick off the covers several times through the night as I get too warm. I haven’t had to with this mattress. It’s not too cold it just doesn’t get too hot. I’m impressed with the ability to keep the bed from overheating.
Since sleeping on this mattress my back hasn’t hurt at all. The mattress feels soft to lay on yet still supportive and comfortable.
I’m hoping that it stands up over time. At this point, I can’t see myself returning it. I look forward to getting into bed at night.
