Are latex mattresses reused or recycled?

This is more of a question for Phoenix but decided to post on here just in case anyone was interested.

I was at a mattress store today and the salesperson mentioned that latex manufacturers can reuse used latex mattresses and melt them to reform new layers (which all have to go through inspection). Do you know if this is true? I guess I don’t really have a problem with it if its still as reliable/durable but am just curious if that is true.

Hi soccerlover17,

This is complete nonsense … latex can’t be “melted” and reformed into new layers.

In case someone else stumbles upon this thread and reads the irresponsible and idiotic statement that your salesperson made about trying to “melt” latex foam…DO NOT ATTEMPT.
