Are wool mattress protectors "scratchy"?

Do wool mattress protectors - like the St. Dormeir or the Natura - have a “scratchy” feel for people that are sensitive to wool in that way, like wool clothing?

I can’t/won’t wear wool sweaters because they feel so “scratchy” to me.

Would these wool mattress protectors likely have the same “scratchy” feel to me?

Thanks.

Hi JoelD,

No … they are both covered in a cotton fabric so you don’t contact the wool directly. Your sheets would also be over the protector.

The Dormeir has a cotton terry cover and the Natura has a cotton Sateen cover (which is a little smoother).

Thanks Phoenix!

Just to follow up after a couple months of sleeping on the St. Dormeir…

Definitely not “scratchy” at all.

And I really like it - soft, yet doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress much at all.

Admittedly, I do not own either of the brands in question - but I do use wool on my bed. My bed has a wool ‘puddle pad’ underneath the wool fleece topper, both are as soft as can be and neither translates anything remotely scratchy. I, too have seen many wool items over the years that felt like scouring pads and I do have ‘princess & the pea’ syndroms, as well as MCS and hypersensitivity to ‘everything’. Each of the wool layers on my bed are soft enough to put my face directly on them, no problems - have had each for more than two years.
