So I recently got diagnosed with hip bursitis in both hips, which explains why all the mattresses I was testing in the stores hurt my hips! Duh, should have gone to doc sooner. Anyway, I called Ginger at Royal Bedding and told her what was up, she’s so nice!!! so I’m going to go back and try their 2-sided Cloud IX Pillowtop out.
I had resisted the idea of another pillowtop at first, since the one I just got is rubbish, but upon rereading info on this site about how acceptable comfort layers are
“1.5 lbs in a two sided mattress or in lower budget mattresses) or that use a slightly firmer version of foam, are stretched tight over the border wire, hog ringed to the innerspring, and preferably used in a 2 sided mattress that will give the layers time to “rest” and recover”
it seemed the Cloud IX might be worth reconsidering.
Ginger says it uses 1.6 lb foam, I think 2" in the pillowtop.
14.5 guage coils (805 Queen)
Insulators: Insulator mesh (keeps padding from pocketing inside the coils), 1.25 ounce polyester insulator pad (thicker and heavier than industry standards)
Padding: Plush foam (1.6) laminated to inside gusset material
Panels: Premium plush foam with . 8 ounce fire barrier. The panels are laminated to the inside padding, helping to keep the padding uniform, and to help reduce the size of body impressions. The inside gusset panels are flanged, surged, and hog ringed to innerspring to help prevent the panels from shifting keeping the pillows looking tailored.
So, based on Phoenix’s recommendations, I thought this one sounded durable? Again, I was running screaming from anything to do with pillowtops, but with my bursitis, I’ve got to have enough padding to keep the pain minimal. But this time, I want quality along with that pillowtop.
