Bed Frame Questions

Hello everyone! I’ve read lots of great posts here about mattress foundations and have found plenty of recommendations, so I’m covered there. What I’m looking for is a good bed frame with adequate center support to place the foundation on top of.

I’ve looked at options like Big Fig’s Bed Frame, Knickerbocker’s emBrace, and some others.

When using a foundation, most of which have slats running side to side, my intuition is that a frame with a center beam running head to toe is better than a center beam running side to side. However, it seems like most of these frames, like the one from Big Fig, don’t have a leg supporting the middle of the center beam. On the other hand, frames like the Knickerbocker emBrace, where the beam runs side to side, do have a leg in the center. The best option seems like a frame that has a center beam running head to toe with a leg supporting the middle of that beam, but I can’t find many options like that.

Am I concerned about something that doesn’t actually matter, and either of these frames would be sufficient when used with a good foundation? Both have weight limits that far exceed anything I’d ever need, but I’ve seen lots of recommendations to get a frame with a center leg, so the lack of one on frames with a head to toe center beam surprises me. I’m also open to any bed frame recommendations, including ones with slats that don’t require a foundation, as long as the slats provide adequate support!

Hi TyrtleByte.

Have you checked out the Terra from @MattressFoundations - it has the center beam and supports up to 2000 lbs and while you can buy it with 6 legs, legs aren’t required.

If the foundation says it can support up to x weight, I’d trust it.

Is is the combined weight of the sleeper + mattress that you’re concerned about?
