Hello,
I am a 56 year old female and I weigh 110 lbs. I am a mostly side sleeper but occasionally sleep on my back. I sometimes wake up with hip and back pain and am a very hot sleeper. I am looking for something that will offer pressure relief, and be as cooling as possible. I live in NYC and want to only buy from a store where I can try out the mattress and I only want to buy from a place that does delivery and set up. I tried quite a few mattresses and a friend of mine knows someone who works at bedquarters mattress, mattress accessories and furniture in Mineola, Manhattan and Bayside NY | BedQuarters and he offered me a very good price on 2 options that I liked, temperpedic pro–adapt in soft and the Stearns and Foster Cassat mattress. I have also heard that Obassan is good as well as avocado green. Can someone give me some advice as which of these they would recommend or if they would recommend something else for me. Also are any of your trusted partners in NYC? Please help as I am feeling very overwhelmed and this is such a big purchase and I don’t want to make a mistake.
Hi SherriHollander.
We don’t have any Trusted Members in New York. It sounds like you have a good connection at Bedquarters.
As you are a lightweight sleeper who also sleeps on her side, you likely need softer layers that will allow you to properly sink. In general a good starting point for a good comfort layer for a side sleeper is 3" and then depending on weight, body shape, preferences, and the firmness of the support layers, to go up or down from there. Most side sleepers will fall in the range of from 2" -4". Without an appropriate comfort layer, a side sleeper will end up with pressure points during the course of the night and could have symptoms of numbness, soreness, localized redness, or end up tossing and turning all night as your body tries to relieve the pressure.
It’s hard (impossible, really) for me to make any specific sort of recommendation as so much of mattress buying comes down to preference. I’d recommend taking a look at our top ten mattress shopping tips and these resources on identifying adequate pressure relief and support and spinal alignment.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve narrowed down my search to the Temperpedic Pro Adapt soft, Stearns and Foster Cassat and Avocado organic luxury mattress. Do you think these are good choices? Which of the three would you recommend? I am leaning towards the Temperpedic. Please let me know.
Thanks!
