Best Firmness of Talulay Latex Topper for Current Dunlop Mattress?

Hello all. We have a latex mattress (all attached) that is too firm for me, but more acceptable for my husband. We’ve been using a 4" memory foam topper for the past year as a temporary solution, but it’s now unbearable for my husband as it no longer offers support for him.

Stats on Us:
[li]He is 5’11" at 225 pounds.[/li]
[li]I am 5’3" at 165 pounds.[/li]
[li]We are both 80% side sleepers, 20% back sleepers. With the proper support (on the couch or an ideal setup), we can both comfortably sleep on our backs. [/li]
Our Current Mattress Setup:
[li]Mattress: Sleep on Latex Firm Dunlop Latex Mattress. Purchased 9 months ago. [/li]
[li]It is made of two connected layers: 44 ILD base/support layer and 28 ILD comfort top layer. They cannot be separated. [/li]
[/ul] [li]As mentioned above, we’ve been using a Zinus (Amazon) 4" memory foam topper that is now causing some misalignment on his lower back - so much so they he prefers sleeping on the couch. There’s a huge slash in this foam topper and it’s looking worn down only after 9 months - I suspect this cheap temporary fix has been living on borrowed time.[/li]
What We’ve Tried:
We’ve tried the 2" Soft 20 ILD Dunlop Latex Topper by Sleep on Latex, but it was still too firm and resistant for me. On the other hand, this topper was perfect for my husband while sleeping on his back but created pressure points when he moved to his side.
Current Options:
 I believe a Talulay topper will fix this. Sleep EZ recommend the 3" thickness for their topper. As for the firmness, based on my body weight (5’3" at 165 lbs) they would commonly recommend a Soft, however for my husband at 225 lbs they would initially recommend a Medium for him. If he preferred a softer feeling he could go with a Soft, but we would have to keep in mind that based on his body weight a Soft layer might not have as much longevity or durability.

I believe Flexus Comfort has better prices than either company you listed, particularly with the Mattress Underground discount. Given that the 20 ILD (albeit Dunlop) topper was too firm, I would be tempted, even for your husband to try the soft Talalay topper.

This is a good point. I’m hoping the extra inch (3" vs. 2" topper) and difference between Dunlop vs. Talulay will be enough for us.

I meant to also share that several years ago we had a 3 layer latex mattress with a memory foam layer on top. That layer wore out and for a short time we slept on the top layer being a 3" 28 ILD Talalay layer. It was too firm for my wife, but it was good for me, just a bit too firm. I was 250 pounds at the time (and about the same now).

Funny you mention this, as we just removed the memory foam topper and tried to lay on the 3" 28 ILD Talulay comfort layer to see if it broke in over time. Nope! Gloriously comfortable for my husband (on his back, not side) but too firm for me. I think I just like the feel of memory foam, despite it being hot and being unsustainable. Flexus’ Soft Talulay Topper is 22 ILD whereas the one from Latex Mattress Factory is 19 ILD. As you said, Flexus is slightly cheaper. Do you think this is a huge difference?

I don’t know that it would be a huge difference but you might ask both companies if that is exact or simply a range. If you really like memory foam there might not be a latex comfort layer that will work as well for you.
