I have a 7 inch thick latex mattress on top of which I have a wool mattress cover to soften the mattress and add additional warmth… I sleep mainly on my side and I frequently wake up with my arms asleep and shoulders hurting. Is there a better mattress surface for my shoulders, and/or determining firmness versus softness of the mattress?
Hi Rolleimagic2,
Welcome to the Mattress Forum!
As a company that specializes in latex, my thought is that you probably need more than 7 inches of latex to achieve a more plush and comfortable feel for your shoulder pain. Anytime we’ve had a customer order a 7 inch mattress, it was either 1. For a child or 2. The customer preferred a very firm mattress.
To determine firmness versus softness, it would help to know the following:
- Your approximate height/weight
- Any details of the densities/ILD’s of the latex you are currently sleeping on
Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you!
