Best Mattress Protector for All Latex Mattress?

Hi all! What are your best suggestions for a good organic mattress protector for an all latex mattress, that won’t completely change the feel of the bed? I have a waterproof protector by Avocado that worked great on my previous bamboo bed, but when I tried using it on latex it created the “drum effect” and I hated it so much! There has to be a better way… I just want to protect the mattress from any perspiration.

Also, if you happen to have any great organic suggestions for where to buy a latex mattress cover for a DIY build (the cover to zip all the latex layers in together) I would appreciate that as well!

@suitesleep has a good cotton knit mattress protector. They are a trusted member here. You can order direct from them; we have it too here. I personally use their washable wool pad on our latex mattress and like it very much. Suite Sleep may be able to give you more information and recommendations on both of those.

Obasan makes a very nice cotton knit protector that is stretchy. This cotton pad, a store brand made for us, is also stretchy.

If waterproofing is needed, these organic protectors from Naturepedic or Sleep and Beyond would fit the bill.

Here’s an article about mattress protectors that I wrote for this site - perhaps it would be helpful.

Good luck to you!

You may want to try something like this from Shepherds Dream. It is not “waterproof” but would be very water resistant. Unless you plan on spilling a gallon of water on the mattress. This is another protector from Suite Sleep, again, not water proof, but protection that allows the latex to maintain it’s breathability and allows the latex to continue maximizing pressure relief.

Also, @TheCleanBedroom offer a lot of latex mattresses and mattress protectors for them that will not adversely effect the qualities of the latex.

Edit, of course, @TheCleanBedroom beat me to the punch by 3 minutes, LOL

Thank you I will check out all these links today! I thought waterproof was needed to guard against perspiration but maybe it isn’t? I’m sure I will learn something new by reading your article

Haha you guys are on top of it! I love it! Thank you so much for your suggestions I will look into it all today. Definitely don’t plan on spilling a gallon of water on the mattress LOL I never eat or drink in bed, just more trying to protect the mattress for longevity and cleanliness, but not change the feel of it!

I think it depends on the thickness of your mattress cover and your mattress pad. I feel secure with a thick mattress cover from Obasan and the thick washable wool mattress pad from Suite Sleep. I think the waterproof protectors are comfortable also.

I will look into both of these! I have never used a washable wool mattress pad- do they tend to move around at all? Would that just go on top of my most top latex layer, in the zippered case?

Mine does not seem to move at all. I put it over all of my layers - it has very deep pockets and it is more secure to put it all the way under my mattress. Hope that helps.
