Hello! New member here. I need to buy a new mattress asap. My dog decided our bed was a good spot to pee and destroyed our bed. Background…my husband and I both have back and hip problems. We sleep on both back and our sides. Need quick delivery and budget is 1500ish. Would love some cooling features and potential for an adjustable frame. TIA!!
Hi LisaH,
First thing, whatever your do, make sure you get a mattress protector the next time around.
The next thing is, do not rely on marketing companies selling you “cooling” features. All of these “cooling” fabrics are generally overstated and over hyped and have limited effect when buying a mattress. When the do have some effectiveness, they are very short lived.
When shopping for bedding, I’d recommend avoiding materials like microfiber and polyester. Instead, focus on sheets and pillowcases made from natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and silk. Lower thread count cotton sheets are especially good because they allow better airflow, keeping you cooler at night.
As for the mattress, hybrid models are generally cooler than all-foam mattresses. If you’re looking for a less heat-retentive option, latex tends to be cooler than memory foam. In terms of support, spring mattresses typically offer better airflow and are cooler than foam-based ones. Some mattresses even incorporate microcoils, which replace foam layers and help promote airflow, creating a cooler sleeping environment.
Additionally, if you’re considering a memory foam mattress, look for ones with airflow channel designs. Some viscoelastic memory foam mattresses are specifically engineered with airflow channels to reduce heat retention and improve ventilation, helping you stay cooler throughout the night.
I hope that helps with your mattress search!
