Big Fig Low Profile foundation - experiences?

Hi all

I have a nest hybrid latex mattress that I love thanks to this community. It’s 120 lbs, very heavy. I am considering the Big Fig Low Profile mattress foundation:

I like a lower profile bed and this is the only one I’ve found that meets the 2" slat spacing rule. I’m wondering:

  1. Does anyone have experience with specifically the big fig low profile foundation? It comes in 2 sections which don’t join in the middle which I find concerning although they say it works by setting into the steel bed frame which I would also buy.

I’m also considering the terra mattress foundation

The big fig low profile foundation has 20 slats whereas their standard foundation and the terra have 18.

For a while I was also looking at the tatami room platform bed which has 18 slats. This is probably bias but I also wonder if the old foundations that have a cover over the slats provide some extra stability/insurance. Would it be wrong to get tatami mats to use with a hybrid mattress with the tatami room platform? Would this be breathable enough?

I’m leaning toward the big fig low profile for cost reasons but let me know if anyone has concerns that it comes in 2 pieces. It also has a higher weight capacity than tatami room. Thanks!

Did you end up getting this? I’m thinking about it and have the same concern about the two Twin Xl pieces not providing enough support although my steel frame does have the center bar that the center side rails would sit on.

Keep in mind that it’s not just the number of slats that matters, but the width of the slats and the spacing between them. For example, if one foundation uses 3 inch wide slats and another uses 2 inch wide slats, both with 2 inch spacing, the foundation with the 3 inch slats will naturally require fewer slats overall. However, it will also provide more surface area and better support under the mattress than the foundation with narrower slats, assuming spacing remains the same.
