brand called "essential sleep"?

Hi,

I recently tried a mattress branded “Essential Sleep” from the North Carolina Furniture Direct store in San Marcos TX. Lunar Mattress in Austin also carries this line. I tried to find information online about the company and mattresses, but was unsuccessful. I think they are based out of Houston, TX.

Thanks!

Hi txtones,

Are you sure you don’t mean Elemental Sleep?

They are made by Sleep-Designs which is a wholesale manufacturer in Houston and is a licensee for Eclipse, Eastman house, and Ernest Hemingway. They also make their own Sleep Designs line and Elemental Sleep is their premium line which uses higher quality materials and is sold through a selected group of outlets. A forum search on Sleep-Designs (you can just click the link) will bring up a little more about them.

When I talked with one of the owners of Sleep-Designs (Stan) … I was impressed with what they were doing, their approach to their retailers, and the quality of the materials they were using in the Elemental line which would certainly be worth considering as an option.

As with all mattresses though … I would want to know the layering of any mattress I was seriously considering. One of their models uses an actual layer of gel rather than being just gel infused memory foam which would be an interesting one to try (gel is a very durable material but also more expensive in a “pure” layer).

You are correct, Phoenix…it is Elemental Sleep…I had the name wrong. Thanks for the research! Did you find any reviews on the mattresses?

Hi Phoenix…
I followed the links you provided. However their website doesn’t seem finished. How old is this company and do they have a location in Austin?
This is the little bit of information I was able to retrieve from their incomplete website:
Sleep Designs mattress brand was founded in 1931 as the Sanitary Mattress Company. The first factory of the Sanitary Mattress Company was nothing more than a large, shady Pecan tree in the back of a small shop at 1507 Louisiana Street in Houston, Texas. Its five employees produced the mattresses by hand at the rate of ten mattresses per day, and the emphasis was on quality materials, expert workmanship…

Thanks!

Hi txtones,

When I last talked with Stan a few weeks ago he said they are still working on re-doing their website. Since they are a wholesale only manufacturer they mostly rely on a selected group of retailers to “educate” their customers about their mattresses.

As the quote you mentioned indicates … they are a little over 80 years old.

A google search on Sleep Designs Houston shows their address as … 5808 Berry Brook Drive Houston, TX 77017 … but this is not a showroom and they only service retail stores … not consumers. They are happy to provide a list of nearby retail outlets that carry their mattress though with a phone call.

Hello,
I never tried Elemental sleep type of mattresses. Are they really good? I am using King Koil mattresses from long time. They are good and are really comfortable. I am looking to buy a set of new mattresses. I am confused which one to buy for my new house.
