Brooklyn Bedding (before uni-model) mattress: comfort layer too soft

Hello all,

We have bought the Brooklyn Bedding 12" Bamboo Bliss mattress in 2013 (back when they offered multiple models) and have been pretty satisfied with it.

However, we think and have thought that from the very beginning that the Medium-Firm latex comfort layer is still kinda soft, after all. It doesn’t bother us that much to the point where we have a bad night of sleep but we do prefer a firmer ride for our backs.

I have just now tried to unzip the comfort layer in order to examine the latex foams and was wondering something.

Here’s my question:

Would adding a layer of 1 to 2-inch latex dunlop layer in the “same zippered space” (not merely on top) as the current talalay latex, in order to compress the two layers of latex, make the ride firmer ?

I have noticed that by combining the contents of two shredded latex pillows (the ones they gave as freebies when you bought a mattress) into a single one made the pillow way firmer. Would that work for comfort layers also ?

The reason I ask this is that we live overseas in Tahiti and bringing back stuff is pretty costly. We brought back the mattress at a time where we had a whole container to bring back and doing so now would be pretty difficult.

Bringing back an additional layer instead of exchanging the whole thing would make the process easier but I was wondering if that would work.

Thanks a bunch for your answers !

Hi tahitianstud,

I’m not sure how much additional thickness the upper enclosure would hold without straining the zipper or the seams (they would be a better source of guidance about this than I would) and it would depend to some degree on the tightness of the enclosure and the firmness of the latex you were adding as well compared to the latex that you have now but if the additional layer was the same firmness or firmer (regardless of whether it is Dunlop or Talalay) and the enclosure is relatively tight fitting then the additional layer would compress the layers inside the enclosure which would tend to make them feel firmer so the answer is “probably yes”.
