Buckwheat Hull pillow: 3D rectangle case

I have found that I like Buckwheat Hull pillows. Now my goal is to get “casing” that is a good size and does not result in a lot of wasted space. By “casing,” I mean the cloth part of the pillow.

I would like to obtain something that

  1. has a zipper
  2. is a rectangular cube-- similar in shape to a shoe box (though may be different in size).

Does anyone know where I might find such a thing? Or some way to achieve something similar to this?

Rant:
I am finding

  1. it tough to achieve a good thickness. Would be nice to have something that can adjust 4" - 7.5" in thickness (I am mostly guestimating at those numbers).
  2. that retailers use the more standard pillow and want to give you a much bigger pillow that probably achieve the higher thicknesses more towards the center. I think the design flaw is that now you need huge amounts of buckwheat and you create unnecessary cost and the inconvenience of having a big pillow, that weighs around 12 pounds.

Hi Yugi78, welcome to The Mattress Underground
Glad to have you here.

Glad to hear you like the buckwheat hull pillow and that you are trying to invest in a zippered adjustable pillow cover. Oftentimes pillowcases can be a hidden source of dander and allergens so it would be good to be able to remove and wash them. I see there are different sizes of pillowcases on www, but the ‘shoebox’ shape you are looking for, while popular in some areas of Europe and Asia, are not readily available in the U.S.; and if you can locate a foreign manufacturer of this adjustable pillowcase design, pricing and delivery times may be prohibitive.

As I am understanding from your description you are looking for a pillowcase design with adjustable height and fixed width/lengths dimensions. That’s an interesting idea. I haven’t heard of such designs and with the little research I did I could not find any. There are, however, many online companies which offer custom zippered pillowcases…I would search amazon and even etsy to see if someone can make a zippered cover to your specifications. This way you will have more control over the dimensions, and can obtain something with the correct shape and feel you are searching for.The Pillow Company has “Pillow heights – remains the same all night, 24/7. The tiny Night Pillow is about 4 inches high. The small through king size Night Pillows are 5-6 inches high.”

I hope this helps and that someone with a good source of height adjustable pillow cases stumbles over your post and weighs in.

Thank you for all of the info. These are some good ideas, and some possible directions to take.

Another idea that I have it to buy a buckwheat hull pillow and put one or more towels underneath to adjust the height. Can also fold the towels in various ways to achieve different heights.

Great! Glad you found the info useful. Sounds like you have a plan… you could also get some smaller buckwheat hull pillows you could use to adjust the height as well, instead of towels which will likely move around and shift a bit while you sleep. I wish you success in your final adjustments!
