Bunk bed mattress in vacation rental

I have 8 bunk bed mattresses to buy so value is important.

In my own home, I have the Latex Bed For Kids from mattresses.net in 3"soft/3"firm.

I’m considering this mattress, the 6" medium Latex Bed for Kids, or BKB from Nest.

These bunk beds will primarily sleep kids and teens, but I do expect the occasional adult to be sleeping there… it is a vacation rental after all.

Since this isn’t just for any particular set of people, but for all my renters, I want to choose something that will have the best shot at pleasing the most people (while also lasting a long time).

I suspect that any of these mattresses will be fine, but before I pull the trigger, I wanted to make sure I’m not missing something obvious about the comfort and durability of these mattresses for a wide range of people.

Thanks!

Hi roshambo,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum!

The Latex Bed For Kids from Mattresses.Net uses blended Talalay latex in either soft, medium, firm or soft/firm configurations. These mattresses are unique in that they use the “trimmings” from custom-sized latex bed orders (usually 18" or 30" wide pieces) and laminates them to form the proper sized mattress. This is the reason behind the lower price point for these items. These mattresses use good quality and durable material and are flippable, and for your application as described, your choice of a medium, or perhaps the plush/firm, would be the most appropriate.

The Nest Bedding Big Kid’s Bed (BKB) uses a 5" 1.8 lb polyfoam core and on top of that is 2" of 2.8 lb Energex high performance polyfoam. This is a one-sided mattress, and for growing children certainly uses good quality and durable material. Nest Bedding does not recommend this item for adult use, just kids and young children.

Overall, the more appropriate choice for your use between these two products would most likely be the Latex Bed For Kids. I would phone Mattresses.net before placing your order just to confirm their comfort firmness recommendations for your use. Both Mattresses.net and Nest Bedding are members here of this site which means that I think very highly of them and that I believe that they compete well with the best in the industry in terms of their quality, value, service, knowledge, and transparency.

I’ll be interested in learning what you decide to do.

Thanks for the feedback Phoenix. After talking with mattresses.net, I’ve decided to buy mainly the medium, but will buy a couple of the soft/firm to mix it up.

I’ll also be purchasing some of my queen/king mattresses from there. I may buy a Kiss mattress or 2 though too

Hi roshambo,

That sounds like a good plan with the mix of mattresses!
