Im 6’2" , 215, with bad back pain, joint pain from physical work. My wife is approx 5’9", 140??, LOL, We’ve slept on a firm spring mattress for almost 20 yrs, with the last few yrs with a memory foam topper.
I want to buy a latex mattress. I am looking at one that they state is 9" thick , with a 6" core, 2" topper, and 1" wool topper for about $1500 for a king. They state the latex is 100% Dunlop latex.
I dont know if i might need a 3" topper? will the 2" b enough?
I was also going to order the medium.
ALSO CAN A HEATING BLANKET BE USED?
Would be nice to have one with a zipper.
Some pro input needed please and maybe a coupon code?? thx!
Hi, you may be interested in some of the information I gave in my last comment on the post “Royal Bedding” concerning buying two twins and getting an adjustable base. Can’t make promises as to how it might help you, but being able to raise my legs and head has helped my back issues some.
i can take care of the adjustable base, just buying the mattress today.
Hi mayhem69,
Welcome to the Mattress Forum!
I’m sorry to hear about your back pain. Assuming that this is in the lumbar region, you’ll want to make sure that whatever you choose has adequate deep support to help maintain a more neutral alignment (see this article).
Well, you certainly got your money’s worth out of that product! I’m guessing you added the memory foam topper these past few years to help get a bit of extra comfort out of your old mattress, but there is a point where replacement is really your only option.

I wouldn’t know what combination of latex you might prefer, as comfort/pressure relief and support/alignment are the two most important functions of a mattress for everyone and the only way to know for certain whether any specific mattress will be a suitable choice that provides you with both will be based on your own careful testing or your own personal experience when you sleep on it because different people can have very different needs and preferences in a mattress in terms of comfort, firmness, and PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and your own Personal preferences).
When you can’t test a mattress in person then the most reliable source of guidance is always a more detailed phone conversation with a knowledgeable and experienced retailer or manufacturer that has your best interests at heart and who can help “talk you through” the specifics of their mattresses and the properties and “feel” of the materials they are using and the options they have available that may be the best “match” for you based on the information you provide them, any local testing you have done or mattresses you have slept on and liked or other mattresses you are considering that they are familiar with, and the “averages” of other customers that are similar to you. They will know more about “matching” their specific mattress designs, options, and firmness levels to different body types, sleeping positions, and preferences (or to other mattresses that they are familiar with) than anyone else.
Their detailed knowledge of their mattresses and how they fit with different body types and sleeping positions along with your feedback from local testing, a customer base of many people that they can use as reference points, and any exchange, return, or any options they have available to customize a mattress after a purchase can help lower the risk of an online purchase.
You’d want to know the specifics of every layer within the mattress you’re considering. It sounds that you are considering the Sleep on Latex 9" Pure Green Natural Latex Mattress, which does use 100% Natural Dunlop Latex in all of their layers, with the GOTS certified wool and GOTS certified cotton in the covering. This mattress is available in Soft, Medium or Firm configurations (the ILD of the 6" core and the upper 2" layer are varied for each comfort preference). It is here where the consultation of a knowledgeable manufacturer is invaluable via a detailed phone call as to what they think what comfort style might work best for your particular needs. There’s certainly no reason that the componentry within this mattress “wouldn’t” work for you both as far as quality of componentry and support, but overall only your own personal testing will be able to determine if you enjoy the comfort of the product.
Most latex manufacturers allow the use of a heated blanket with their product, but you’ll always want to check with them specifically about this to make sure it doesn’t complicate your warranty.
This system is not a component-style system where layers are exchanged. If you’re interested in such a system, many of the site members do offer latex component-style systems where layers may be exchanged.
Sleep on Latex is a member of this site which means that I think very highly of them and that I believe that they compete well with the best in the industry in terms of their quality, value, service, knowledge, and transparency. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to purchase a mattress from them.
Because Sleep On Latex protects itself against the code harvesters you can request the code in a Private Message or email. Alternatively you can always place your order over the phone (312.487.2865) and mention that you are a member of The Mattress Underground to receive your discount.

Phoenix, thank you for the code! Im pulling the trigger on the king med., hope me and wifey can eliminate some of this nagging pain.
Also im going to just keep my old boxspring, its still in really great shape. Should i put a piece of plywood on top for better support for the latex mattress?
Hi mayhem69,
Congratulations on your new Sleep on Latex mattress purchase! :cheer: You are choosing something using good quality and durable materials.
If your bottom unit is a true active coil box spring unit, you would need to place a piece of plywood over that, as Sleep on Latex recommends a solid flat base or a slatted foundation with spaced 3" or less between them. You may also wish to place a coir bed rug or something similar on top of your plywood base to promote air circulation under your mattress.
I’ll be interested in learning about your new mattress once you’ve had a chance to sleep upon it for a while.
