Cal King - not 84inches? More like 81? Unusually large gap in bed frame now.

Hello!

Just bought a mattress after almost 15years. Had a cal-king posturpedic. Served us well.
New mattress just arrived (as in, an hour ago!). We put it into our bed frame, which measures 85inches from end to end.
Our old cal-king fit perfectly. No gap at the top, none left at the bottom once comforter was tucked.
Our new matress (Beautyrest Recharge Cal-King) has left a little over 3 inches at the top before the headboard.
The mattress is measuring about 81inches, not 84 (width is correct however).
The tag on the mattress shows 72x83.5, but we’re not even hitting 83.5. I can stick my arm down the gap - never the case before.

I found an old post here where someone else had their mattress not measure the claimed length, but there was never any finality in the post. Before I begin the flurry of calls to figure this out and decide if I should return this mattress, I’m asking here to see if I’m alone and/or for any info/experiences.

Thank you for your time!

Hi MarkM,

You can see the Simmons “standard” sizing by clicking on the "Standard Sizes—Do Beautyrest mattresses come in standard sizes? here (second from the bottom).

Their cal king standard sizing would be 83" long +/- 1/2"

If you have measured it correctly (and not just by the size of the gap between the mattress and your headboard) and your mattress is less than 82.5" long then based on their standard specifications your mattress would be out of spec.

There is more about mattresses that are out of spec in post #3 here and the posts it links to.

You are certainly not the only one that has run into this issue.
