My mattress consists of an 8-inch Quantum Edge pocket coil base layer, 2-inch Dunlop soft, and 2-inch Talalay soft from Latex Mattress Factory. It’s definitely more comfortable than my last mattress, but I still think there could be some improvement in my alignment and a little pressure in the lower back and shoulder area for side-sleeping (I use to be a back sleeper). Should I replace the Dunlop with another Talalay? Here is a picture of my alignment; my apologies for the quality–it’s from a laptop camera.
Hi JustinBrown,
Post #2 HereHappy to hear you are enjoying your new mattress for the most part. Unfortunately outside of medical practitioners, I’m not sure anyone can ‘diagnose’ alignment issues via a photo…nothing strikes me as an egregious misalignment in the picture, at least. You might want to take a look at from Phoenix that addresses some causes for lower back pain, and of course I would recommend you see a healthcare provider if possible to make sure your back pain is not a sign of something more serious.
You say you have a ‘little pressure in the lower back and shoulder area’….you could replace your Dunlop layer with another Talalay Layer…remember Talalay is considered ‘springier’ and Dunlop more ‘cradling’ - think pound cake versus angel food cake- though for back sleepers it could be a trade off, as another layer Talalay would possibly feel too springy. This is where it’s entirely a matter of personal preference. Have you considered possibly adding a latex topper to modify the feel? Many of the Trusted Members of the site offer a variety of latex toppers, as well as many other online retailers and brick and mortar stores that may be local to you. We also have a lot of DIY latex enthusiasts here… possibly they can weigh in on this as well.
Hope this helps,
