Can you identify this mattress? Tencel and another logo on top.

I’ve looked at every mattress listing (for this size Twin XL) on various big selling sites. And on various sites of mattress makers in my state – which before reading this site I didn’t realize multiple locally-made brands are considered quite good. Done numerous internet image searches. Still no luck.

So figured I’d ask the smartest mattress forum on the internet.
I would like to get a bigger version of this mattress, but I don’t know what the brand is.
Says Tencel on top. And has the other logo. The tag has been ripped off. Any ideas?

Hey FM1,

Welcome to the Mattress Underground  ! Thanks for your question.

Congrats on you new mattress shopping journey  ! There are many smaller quality local mattress manufacturers/ retailers out there FM1, and one of the factors leading to the creation of the Trusted Member Program, we highly regard TMU’s participants’ component expertise, quality construction and customer support. A little information from you please, where are you located and where did you find the mattress? Any idea of its age and construction?

Thanks for your kind words on the forum, FM1  . You’ll find no lack of interest in trying to answer your question, although we may not have the immediate answer you seek. Thanks too for including the mattress pics, the different product views are helpful and it is a lovely mattress! The Tencel ™ branded cover w/ offset crest design is not necessarily unique to one particular mattress brand and as you said, the internet isn’t particularly helpful in this instance. Without the tag/ consumer law label, it’s virtually impossible to research its manufacturing origins easily. Does the owner of the mattress remember where it was purchased? Also, if there is a matching box spring somewhere, that too would have a consumer law label.

I’ll keep my eyes open and perhaps other TMU consumers following your post may be of help as well. Good luck on your research.

Thanks,
Sensei

I was thinking my Green Bay, WI address would show up on the left under my avatar, but it doesn’t. I searched in various ways to link the mattress to various WI mattress makers mentioned on here. (And, again, before reading this forum, I wouldn’t have realized multiple WI manufacturers are considered as good or even better than the more well-known brands.)

With “Tencel” and the other logo on top, figured there’s at least a chance someone would have an idea about it, so was worth a shot. Label is torn off, no box spring, and the person who bought it is no longer available. I don’t think it’s more than five years old. It looks new. Seems like innerspring, possibly a hybrid, with the Tencel pillowtop.

It’s definitely not full memory foam. Even firm ones of those are like laying on bread dough and are an acquired taste. I have a Serta iComfort Genius(? the firmest one of that generation) in one room. It’s ok in its own way, but other people, definitely lighter than me, have slept on it and hated the doughyness and had trouble even getting off of it.

I know there’s plenty of good mattresses out there. Even if I didn’t get a different size of this one, I would still wonder for the rest of eternity what mystery brand this one is. Thanks for trying.

Hey FM1,

Thanks for your reply  .

You are correct, FM1; the forum interface does not display subscriber location information and we (TMU moderators) only ask those details when relevant to researching questions, in your case when local mattress manufacturers were mentioned. As far as manufacturers who “are considered as good or even better than the more well-known brands”, each manufacturer/ retailer who is"recommended by the Mattress Underground"is a member of this site by invitation only and has passed a strict vetting process, assuring they are among the “best in the industry” in terms of quality, value, and service, and have the knowledge and experience to help their customers make informed buying decisions, and we feel are among the best choices in the industry.

For consumers who may not be familiar with Tencel fabrications, here is a brief description from their site: Tencel™ fibers are derived from sustainable wood sources and blended into fabrics, enhancing softness, strength and temperature regulation. The mattress definitely appears newer and in good shape; the Tencel pillowtop is nice too. I figured that a box spring was a long shot but put the idea out there in case a companion piece may be lurking in storage somewhere, sometimes random questions trigger memories to other leads.

I wish I could have helped more, FM1. Don’t give up on your “mystery brand” mattress yet- have you posted your pics on Reddit? Give r/Mattress a try, they have good moderator support and lots of traffic too and perhaps a different set of eyes may have “seen” something from a view point we do not have here… . Good luck with your search and let us know if you find your mystery mattress’s identity.

Thanks,
Sensei

aha!
Tried a couple more different searches here and there.
Was about to give up.
Then I finally saw the logo pattern.
I think it must be Southerland brand.

Right now, the Southerland Signature Carly Plush is sold with the same Tencel and logo pattern on it. The side of the mattress looks different, though other Southerland sides look similar.
That’s the only Southerland (or any other) mattress I’ve seen with the same logo pattern.
Southerland uses lots of different logos for some reason.

At least I (probably) know the brand now. Mystery mostly solved.

Hey FM1,

Welcome back to the forum Thanks for your update  !

Good work on your sleuthing, FM1! Congrats to you as your intrepid research efforts have finally paid off. The images of the Carly Plush are remarkably similar to your twin XL pic. The one difference I noticed was a slight variation in the tufting appearance between the two, but that shouldn’t affect its feel in a significant way. Now that you’ve found something similar, are you considering a purchase? BTW, Scooby-Doo would be proud of you “mostly” solving the Mystery… .

Sensei

I don’t think the Carly is similar other than a same/similar tencel top and the same logo design. The Carly is listed as 3" taller.

I emailed Southerland customer service including links to pictures and pointing out the rare flowery logo, and they said unfortunately we make tons of mattresses with the Tencel cover and have no way of knowing what bed it is without the tag.
