I am trialing a Plushbeds Luxury Bliss Medium. We are both finding it too soft but my sense is it’s NOT the top ‘comfort’ layer but rather the give of the coils. Their suggestion is to change out the comfort layer but I seriously doubt that’s the issue. And I’d rather not have so much ‘back and forth’ particularly since I only get one full mattress swap if this doesn’t work out (meaning if I end up swapping the whole mattress - I’m stuck with the replacement even though I don’t know if it will be any better. So - guidance on this? Coils standard or are they also variable in ‘give’ (perhaps a stupid question?).
I am trying to avoid the weight and general floppiness of a full Latex mattress - experience has taught me that they are very difficult to change sheets with for us relative geezers.
It is always okay to have a bit firmer base than you need. If you can feel the springs sinking in too far then it’s the springs. You know the difference between the springs and comfort layer compressing.
If your base is a little too firm, you can modulate the layers on top to increase the softness before you reach the base.
For a higher body mass index (im 5’11" 220 pounds and need a firm/medium-firm base spring) you need a stronger base spring
So, it is not a foundation issue. If the mattress has a zippable encasement, it is easy for the vendor to send firmer coils. Whether a mattress is firm or plush depends on the weight. A medium firm for 170lbs end up becoming plushier for 240lbs. That’s why any good mattress seller would ask for such details.
I don’t want to blame salesmen, as I was in sales long time back. Their management imposes quotas. So, once they close the sale, it is over, as it leads to comfort exchange or unfavorable store credit.
Yes.. understood. We don’t weigh a lot, but I guess we just like a firmer base. If all latex wasn’t so damned heavy and unwieldy, probably go that route. But my back can no longer take it!
