Ok so here is my mattress journey story. I’ve read so many of these from others and maybe my story can help someone. I am a crazy researcher so this site is right up my alley.
My wife and I live in bergen county nj. Our 10yr old memory foam mattress had started to sink in in the middle and we decided to check out some mattresses. Our journey started at Macy’s we laid down on a stearns and foster firm pillowtop and said this is the one! Then I started reading reviews and realized how negative they were.
I started researching and it lead me here to the underground.
I spent hours reading here and watching videos on mattresses and just taking in all the info I could. My wife totally thinks I’m crazy I’d show her this matress that mattress. There was always mattress stores left open on our computer.
I convinced myself that an all latex mattress was what we should get, I even considered building one myself. I was talking to some local places that would sell me latex cores and toppers.
Then we started traveling to mattress stores that carried better mattresses none are that close so it was a commitment to travel around. Each time we just didn’t prefer the all latex beds we always gravitated to the hybrid with coils and a layer of latex. I found all latex beds too wobbly for me the hybrids feel more grounded if that makes sense.
Our goal was to stay under $2000 so I was eying the ultimate hybrid pocket coil from mattresses.net. I was close to ordering it but I was worried about not having tried it.
Then I found comfort sleep systems in CT and realized they had a hybrid that featured the legget and plat pocket coils. So I talk my wife into taking the hour and a half drive out there. We meet Sara ,super nice young lady. We hop on the hy-bed and BOOM! It’s the feel of the stearns and foster but with better quality materials. Its not actually a pillowtop but has 1.8 lb poly foam quilted in the cover. We ordered one and have been sleeping on it since and are very happy.
So the moral of the story to me is that when pheonix says don’t go by what someone else feels. If you can go try them out for yourself.

I particularly appreciate your comments about the importance of your own personal experience and preferences because there are so many people who don’t fully realize how much different preferences can play a role in choosing the “best” mattress and materials/components for each person.
