How long can a compressed mattress with coils stay in the box, without damaging it?

The consensus I’ve come across in speaking with different boxed-bed companies is around 6 months as a preference for time compressed. Now, I’ve also come across great variability in recommendations. I’ve spoken with some foam suppliers and they don’t want their foams compressed that long (I think this length of time recommendations varies with the density of their foams - higher density foams tend to put up with compression better than lower density). I’ve had some imported boxed-bed companies tell me their products are just fine compressed over a year. It’s curious how their recommendations seem to dovetail with the time it takes to get their products shipped to the USA, warehoused and distributed to customers. I’m not sure that their recommendations in these cases are based upon actual testing (or what their definitions are of acceptable loss of height/resilience), or if their recommendations are more based upon marketing.
The biggest concern in a boxed-bed mattress is the foam/comfort material and how long that can tolerate compression. Higher density foams tend to tolerate this better than lower density. The spring unit isn’t the weakest link here generally. Most consumers aren’t aware that raw innerspring units are shipped from the innerspring manufacturers to the mattress companies in a compressed state (for those mattress companies who don’t product their own spring units), and can stay that way for some time in the mattress factory. The spring units are quite resilient to loss of height/set if properly stress relieved / tempered. I haven’t run across a timeframe recommendation from innerspring companies to mattress manufacturers mandating a limitation on the time after which they want their compressed innerspring units to be uncompressed and used, but to be honest I’ve never asked that specific question. Maybe a manufacturer here on the forum would have more specifics on this.
