I purchased a memory foam mattress and am finding it too hot for me. Are mattress pads a viable option to modify temp or do I need to look at replacing?

Hi Coolitdownplease,

Welcome to the forum and the Mattress UnderGround.

Memory foam, by nature is a heat sensitive material that retains heat and will make you hotter than you might prefer.

You can use a mattress pad, but a topper would be better. Wool and horsehair toppers ill likely be the best, as they process heat that transfers from you body and allows it to channel out away from your body, rather than right back at your body. A wool mattress pad may help, but is usually too thin to solve the problem.

I recently got a Perfectly Snug Smart Topper. It actually has fans in the topper to circulate air to keep you cool. Although it may be as expensive as some mattresses, it can be used on any mattress, and cool you and or warm you or you bed mate, individually. So if one sleeps cold and the other warm, it will accommodate each of you.

A suggestion might be to evaluate the cost of the mattress, and whether you are still in your trial period. If you are still in your trial period, this may be the time to opt for a different material mattress arrangement.

Best of luck,

Maverick

Thank you! I will. Look into the horsehair/wool toppers.
