Hi Phoenix hope you are well. I searched your site and the entire Web and found very little info on this, and I think you’ll agree ticking can make a big difference with Latex.
I did find some opinions, but it looked like from mostly biased sources, ie they were not selling canvas. Let me know what you think of the following statements, if you think they are true or not, some seem logical but would like to tap into your knowledge/experience on this subject if you hopefully have some.
Wrapping Latex in cotton canvas negates many of the benefits of Latex, since it is “woven” and has much much less stretch (so the true feel of Latex is negated, and you get LESS PRESSURE RELIEF) than other ticking such as Knits
Cotton Canvas is less breathable than Knits, so heat is retained more.
Cotton Canvas does not wick away moisture as good as an unwoven fabric such as Knits.
Cotton Canvas could end up distorting the Latex over time since it is not allowed its normal “movement” through stretch.
This would depend on how suitable the mattress was in terms of PPP and there may be some people that may even prefer a woven cover for reasons of their own (and some covers have a knit top fabric and a woven bottom fabric with quilting in between the two layers) but I would agree with you that a thicker woven material will reduce the ability of the latex underneath it to contour to the shape of the body and could reduce the pressure relief compared to a stretch knit material.
This would depend to some degree on the specifics of the canvas and the knit cover, the other layers in the mattress, and your sheets and bedding as well (including any quilting and the mattress protector and bedding). If you have a fairly thin knit cover with no quilting that allows you to sink more deeply into softer latex or other foam layers in the mattress then in combination with the latex layers it could be more insulating and sleep warmer than a cover that was “stiffer” and wasn’t as contouring even if the cover itself was more breathable (which it would be).
I would think this is probably accurate as well.
I don’t think that either one would “distort” the latex.
