Hi! Thank you for all the information on your site but I have a bit of a unique problem. Not only do we need a new matress but we need a custom size. My wife and I found a great platform bed and ideally need to find a 68 inch by 80 inch matress. We are looking for a reliable retailer either online or in the Philadelphia area (19025). Our budget is a hard $1500 if possible … Did not see any info about retailers custom sizing or building. Additional info would include us being a near identical 6ft and weighing 165 pounds. Equal side and back sleepers.

I can help with part of your question.
Many manufacturers do offer custom sizes, but it’s something you’ll have to inquire about when you visit the sleep shop. It’s not something as common with the larger brands - you’ll tend to have better luck with some of the smaller or more regional licensees. Look for sleep shops that offer brands other than the typical “S” brands and start by phoning those. I’m sorry I don’t have a listing of the more reputable retailers in your area.
Another option you may wish to consider would be a non-innerspring mattress. Many of the online latex companies can make custom sizes for you. The foam is quite easy to size, and then the only other issue would be getting the cover to match. I’d look for a manufacturer that makes their own covers. I’m not sure, but a place like www.sleepez.com might be a good place to start for questions about that.
There certainly are custom size builders out there. It will just take a bit of calling on your part. Maybe some other members of the site who are in your area would have better information than I do for you.

Thanks for the information Jeff! Our only concern for going strictly online would be the ability to try a matress first. Since it is a custom size I doubt the 100 day trial would stand. Gives me a place to start and a phone call to make!

Yes, you are probably correct that custom sizes are usually not returnable. Ideally, finding a local company will serve you best in this particular situation, as you’ll be able to sample the product in person and have an idea of the level of comfort.
Subject to first confirming that any retailer or manufacturer on the list that you wish to visit is completely transparent (see this article) and to making sure that any mattress you are considering meets your criteria and the quality/value guidelines here … the better options or possibilities I’m aware of in and around the Philadelphia/Wilmington/Trenton areas are listed in post #4 here.
They should give you a chance to test some latex mattresses as well so you have some reference points regardless of whether you end up purchasing locally or online, and you’ll be able to see if some of these companies can prepare custom sizes for you.
