Debating between two mattresses in the bay area

In the bay area and tried two stores. Narrowed it down to the Nest Owl The Owl Natural Latex Hybrid Mattress - Nest Bedding – Nest Bedding®
or the European sleep works Alpine and Alpine HDM. Mattress Prices | Berkeley CA | European Sleep Works

The nest owl seems significantly cheaper (several hundred), and has 3" dunlop foam on top of 6" coils (and some other synthetic foam)
The alpine hdm and alpine are both 2" of talalay on microcoils and base coils.

My partner is a smaller side sleeper with hip pain issues, I am a back sleeper with no issues. She preferred the alpine but liked both options. I’m not sure I understand why the alpine is so much more costly with less material, is it an economics of scale issue? Does the makeup of either mattress seem like it would suit our needs?

Hi nickg.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

The Nest Owl is a great option with excellent durability. The Alpine models look well put together as well. As per your sleeping profiles, both appear to fall in the realm of offering adequate support for your needs.

Pricing can be a finicky thing and can be the cause of different suppliers, markups, and more. The Alpine actually has two coil units (base and micro) which could be part of the pricing disparity.

The fact that you’ve been able to test in person is a valuable data point. I’d say go with your testing data
