My wife and I were finally able to get out and try some mattresses yesterday. I found a place locally that had a good variety of brands that generally get good reviews and are not available elsewhere nearby. We were able to try various models from WinkBeds, Helix, Brooklyn Bedding and Diamond Mattress.
We really gravitated towards this one.
I found this post from last year which was informative and gave me some more confidence in a brand I otherwise hadn’t heard much about, but was wondering if there were any additional opinions. I was also curious if anyone could offer up any comparable mattresses to compare this to especially since this one is pushing the budget. Unfortunately, the exact layer construction is a little unclear. The Sleep Basil website lists it as being 14.5" whereas the Diamond Mattress site says 17" which is confusing.
Hi mjurgemeyer.
I’m glad you guys were able to get in and do some mattress testing!
The discrepancy between the 14.5" and 17" listings comes down to whether a retail store is referencing a baseline model, an older “Version 1.0” design, or counting the total loft from the hand-tufting. According to current official manufacturer specifications, the Generations 2.0 Heritage Luxe has a 16" to 17" total profile height. It is a massive, deep-pocket mattress, so if you go this route, you will definitely need deep-pocket sheets.
Outside of the brands you’ve already tested…
@NestBedding, the Owl Natural Latex Hybrid is a direct competitor to Generations 2.0 Heritage Luxe Plush
@EthicalMattress carries the Avocado Green Pillowtop, which is also specifically engineered to compete with ultra-premium heritage mattresses like Diamond’s Generations line.
Since you liked the Heritage Luxe I feel like you might also like @OrganicBedroom’s Whitney line

Thanks so much for the info and comparables to check out. It is a big honking mattress so it might be nice to find something a little lower profile.
