DIY build - Need help - based in Scotland UK

Hi all

I am looking to create a continuous coil/open coil mattress similar to one I bought in 2004. I have gone inside the mattress and assessed its different layers. I have spoken to a local independent bed maker who has stated that he would only make a mattress up for me with the flex felt layers which he normally uses to make mattresses with.

What I need:

  • spring unit - continuous coil - 12.5 guage
  • layer of spring felt roughly 1500 gsm . maybe 1 . 5cm
  • layer of felt roughly 400 - 500 gsm . maybe 1 cm
  • another layer of felt roughly 400 - 500 gsm . maybe 1 cm
  • foam layer approx. 6mm
  • canvas cover around whole mattress

The bed maker said that the felt I wanted was much softer than the felt he used. His felt is in one layer and is 900 gsm. I wanted 400 - 500 gsm. Mine also used needle punch but I am not sure that needed copying too.

(I need these specs for congenital scoliosis)

So, I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of how to get the mattress made?
Thanks
Gavin

Hi gavin-bad-back,

I’m not familiar with the UK market so I don’t know where to purchase the components you are looking for but hopefully someone in the UK that knows will see your post and share their suggestions.
