DIY Mattress feedback

So I have been playing with beds and toppers for 18 months now. I have a solid wood foundation, but the mattress and topper game isn’t working I believe because my hybrid mattress has 4 inches of unknown “medium soft” foam on top of pocket coils so my topper configurations are either too soft that will follow the sag in my medium soft bed or too hard.

I am going to try the Texas pocket spring route or if someone has a different brand as I have a spare room to build.

I need pressure relief (5’7" 185 lbs with most weight in mid section and possibly fibromyalgia) I see Texas suggests this quad mini to put on top, but I am seeing that the quad mini feels like latex. I imagine the springs are springy to act like the bounce of latex. I’m not really a fan of latex, but I might have to try to get used to it because I can’t find a middle of the road (25ish ILD) durable (3 to 5 lb) foam.

Things I already have are 2 inch HR 20 ild which is too soft, 2 inch 28 ild HR 28 which is too hard, 2 inch 3lb 15 ild memory foam and 2 inch 20ILD talalay. More than willing to add to the collection

So 2 questions
1: What do you guys suggest for encasement or foam rails?

2: Could I get feedback on my build?
From bottom to top
- Texas 15.5 gage
- 2 inch 20 ild talalay (SOL) or Texas mini
- 2 or 3 inch 15ILD memory foam (foam factory)

I think you just need a 15.5g quadcoil spring, a 12" zippered encasement like i saw multiple on walmart.com theres a pure cotton one, and a bamboo one, just search you can find one for pretty cheap. I dont believe in paying $350 for an encasement. Then you try the foams you have in different orders to find what works. I would try the talayay on top of the 28ild foam first. That is probably the build i would actually use myself and feel comfortable on.

If not that, then id put the talaylay on top of the memory foam. It seems people like to think it makes more sense to put the memory foam on top of the latex, but i do not believe in that. I believe in putting latex on top of the memory foam because latex gives you responsiveness on your top layer, while the memory foam underneath gives more contouring.
The latex keeps you from getting that smushy feeling, but memory foam keeps latex from being too bouncy.

ugh, I slept on my sagging bed with 2 memory foam toppers. Night one was ok. Night 2 my hip sank and gave me a back pain. Night 3 was a seemingly full collapse of the foam at 4am. I just felt like i was lying on compressed foam instead of the cradle I enjoy.
Just months ago, I could buy a Saatva topper and get a few weeks out of it before it collapsed. Now 3 days with 2inch 5lb 12ild memory foam and 2 inch of 3lb 15ild and they are wrecked i guess.

Now since I switch out layers so much, I have only put a comforter over the top of whatever layers I have. I’ll switch things around 6 times in a day sometimes trying to find something that works. Do you think just having a comforter on top is making these foams die so quick or because of the sag in my bed?

I have a 3" 3lb 15 ild memory foam i haven’t used yet and the talalay is still off gasing, but i might have to use them if i have a chance at sleeping tonight. I just don’t get how this foam lasts 3 days. Something is wrong and I don’t know what

I appreciate you saying there are cheap options for encasements. I’m more interested in things that will work and last. Sleep is so hard to come by for me that I will do just about anything to get it.

I don’t see what would cause the more affordable ones to not work or last, but the stretch cotton cover from tps does work well.

I threw away my memory foam last night, just don’t like it in any part of the bed. And my birch latex topper is very soft so i plan on using it at the hotels im visiting.

What id do is call nest and wild and tell them you want to order a 2" layer of their top foam. That or just try one of their beds. The foam they use in the top is latex/memory foam hybrid that’s pre stressed by industrial equipment so it won’t lose durability.

That’s just what I’ve gravitated towards, no memory foam and not much latex. I sleep on his top hybrid foam top layer because it does conform like memory foam but retains shape like latex. But also I visited the factory and bought one of their beds for my parents and they love it

What’s tps?

Any clue what the ILD of the 2 inch top layer you are talking about from nest and wild. It seems I prefer softer things than you

Texas pocket springs

It’s about 20ild
