DIY mattress issues. Enclosure mutes latex feel and over-firms bed

5’11. 180lb side sleeper - I’ve been sleeping on this build for about a month now with just some slight shoulder discomfort.

Top to bottom.

2" 19 ILD talalay.
1" 4lb Memory Foam
2" 28 ild talaly,
8" bolsa coils
1" lux hq foam

Then I added a 14" stretch cotton cover from The Pocket Coil store, and it’s a completely different mattress. I no longer feel the latex conforming to my body, and it feels very firm in comparison to before, to the point where I only got about 4 hours of sleep on it before I couldn’t do it anymore. Last night I tried with the 2" 19ILD on top of the other enclosed parts, and that was better, but woke up with some hip pain.

At this point I’m debating options and would like some advice/guidance.

A) Swap the 19 ILD for a 14ild, keep it all under the cover.

B) Take the financial hit and not use the TPS enclosure, and run a sheet over the bare stack like I was doing before.

C) Replace the cover. Are there options that won’t negate the feel/softness?

EDIT to add info on my base. The past month I’ve had the assembly on the floor. Just put it up on a KD Lexington frame this last weekend, the same day I put the cover on the mattress.

A proper stretch cover will have about 5% Lycra (spandex) to allow it to stretch and recover. Without it the feel will be compromised. Our zippered covers all have Lycra to minimize the interference of the feel. At this point I would put your Talalay on top of the cover and then just your sheet.

I did this last night, with the 19 ILD on top of the rest of the enclosed stack. Was better, but not the same as the stack without the cover. Woke up with some hip pain this morning.

At this point I think I’ll run the bare stack with a sheet, and consider a new enclosure.

This is an interesting one, I’m not very familiar with the bolsa unit. The PCS cover does have stretch, its a cotton poly blend 80/20. if you lay on the mattress with cover unzipped how does it feel.

With everything in the cover, and the cover unzipped, it isn’t quite as firm, but is still rather muted from just a sheet. I suppose that is to be expected though. Also noticing that the Kirkland sheets I’m using are causing their own drum effect.

Using looser fitting sheets, I slept on my build with everything encased in the cover. It was better than the first night, but I’m feeling a lot of soreness on my hip and shoulder today that wasn’t present before the cover.

Do these covers loosen up with time, or is this as stretchy as it gets?

Unfortunately I don’t have longevity testing on it. Its just so odd that the cover by itself is causing the issue. Not saying that its not, but it not a quilted cover which will firm things up.
