Hi, I am 5’11 140lbs and my wife is 5’8 200lbs. We are both side/back sleepers (we fall asleep on our sides and wake up on our backs). I am wanting to DIY a mattress and understand that I will probably need to do a split king. I am struggling with what the layer configuration should be. Here is what I am thinking:
8in coils (king)
2 in medium dunlop latex (king)
2x 3 in soft talalay latex (twin xl)
Stretch knit mattress cover
My wife prefers it somewhat on the medium-firm side and I prefer it on the medium side.
If the above configuration is reasonable, what would be a good ILD for the transition layer, and what would be a good ILD for our respective sides of the split king? Also it would be helpful to have recommendations of specific brands of coils/foam (if it matters). I am new to this.
If anyone has a better idea for the configuration, I am happy to hear it as well.
I work in my office all day, and my wife is pregnant, so we are both experiencing back pain.
Thank you!
