Does anyone know if latex mattress toppers help cool down a mattress that is too warm?
There are many factors that can cause a mattress to sleep too warm including the bedding that you choose. Most commonly anything that restricts air flow around your body will tend to get hot as you sleep, particularly for materials that are enveloping you like memory foam does as you sink further into it. Foams which are often a closed cell type have very limited air flow and sleep hot. Bedding can be experimented with and many find that natural materials like cotton breathe best and therefore sleep cooler or actually more temperature neutral. Addition of a latex topper can help a too hot mattress sleep more temperature neutral since latex is an open cell design which breathes well by allowing air to more easily circulate through it. A firmer latex topper can also keep you more on top of it so your body is less enveloped and can cool itself more naturally. We’re all unique in our needs and preferences so what sleeps temperature neutral for one may be hot for another, it can be difficult to predict. However the explanation given is in general terms and can give you some of the factors affecting sleep temperature to consider in your choices. Hope that helps!
