Almost every mattress I’ve looked at lately is one-sided, but I still see a few manufacturers making flippable mattresses. It got me wondering if we’ve traded durability for convenience. If a mattress can be flipped and the wear is spread out over both sides, I’d expect it to hold up better over the years, but I don’t know if that’s actually how it works in practice. Has anyone here owned both a two-sided mattress and a one-sided mattress? Did you notice a real difference in lifespan, comfort, or how well the support held up over time?
While looking around, I noticed there are still a handful of manufacturers building two-sided mattresses, even though most of the bigger brands seem to have moved away from them. Does anyone know why that is? Is it mainly because of manufacturing costs, or are there downsides to the design that I’m missing?
One thing I’ve noticed is that not many manufacturers even offer true two-sided mattresses anymore. A lot of them have switched to one-sided designs because they’re cheaper to produce. I was comparing a few companies recently and saw that places like Matelas Personnel still build flippable models, which surprised me because I thought that style had mostly disappeared. Is there actually a measurable difference in lifespan, or is it more dependent on the materials inside?
