Did you find that talalay worked better for you than dunlop in that regard? (if you had to choose one over the other)
I prefer Talalay. I find the whole āTalalay is more bouncyā to be misleading. Bouncy is not quite the same as overall pushback.
I know that Dunlop is supposed to technically feel softer and then compress and feel firmer, but I wonder if that has really been tested well across many different weights and body sizes. Most bedding rules seem to break with smaller female bodies tbh.
I think WHERE your weight is on your body is important too, not just the net weight, so if you are carrying weight in a curvy frame or have a big chest or butt etc. then the latex may behave differently than what the tests say on a rectangle male body.
Dunlop at my weight feels like the worst of both worlds. There is no contour and tons of pushback even if it is not really ābouncyā it pushes my whole body out of alignment and feels like sleeping on a rock.
Itās so interesting how personal mattresses are, which makes it even trickier lol Thank you for sharing! I think dunlop on the bottom and middle with talalay on top might be the sweet spot for me.. we shall see. All I know is all talalay definitely does not work!
So we started with the Soledad but I think we got a bum coil unit and they swapped it out, but for better motion isolation (which had turned out to be a huge problem) we swapped to the Coronado at the same time, and we have 6" firm Dunlop with 3" medium talalay on top. Iām 5ā10" 135lb lanky build. It took a little getting used to, but Iām sleeping well, and hit or miss if my husband is there too. The motion isolation is still a concern. But the medium talalay is almost too soft and I worried about my shoulders rounding. I think itās okay now, but I imagine the soft or extra soft just wouldnāt provide much support and would end up with a hammock situation. They were super helpful swapping things out, just a bummer I had to pay shipping since I donāt live nearby. Hoping you like the medium on top!
Thank you so much for sharing Lannalab. Yes the guys at MM are great! I live close enough to drive to the store (1 hour), but still have to pay for delivery since I am in another county. I am hoping to get the perfect (or close to it) configuration settled asap!
I actually have the medium talalay already as it was the middle layer of my presidio mattress, and it is much too firm for me to use as the top comfort layer. I almost went with the Coronado too! The medium was wayyyy to firm for me, but the medium soft felt like it could definitely work. I only had a chance to test it out for 20 minutes or so, not overnight of course.
At this point dunlop on the bottom feels best for me, and possibly for the middle layer as well. I think with the talalay top comfort layer, I may have to go with 2" soft (purchased separately) because 3" might be too soft. I will keep everyone updated with what I end up doing here!
I feel your paināliterally! Iām currently in āmattress hellā with a Sleep on Latex setup, so I completely sympathize with that 4-hour-mark wake-up call. Itās exhausting.
You are certainly not alone- unfortunately! Last night I was wide awake at the 4.5 hour mark⦠brutal really, when itās night after night. What is your current sleep on latex set up? Two things I learned about them are:
- Their customer service is excellent
- Their material is much firmer than any other company I have tested out
I still have their firm dunlop and it is definitely considered extra firm anywhere else. 46 ILD when most firms are 36 ILD. Itās frustrating because almost every configuration Iāve tried ends up feeling too firm in a strange push back kind of way.. especially after putting on a fitted sheet, no matter how deep the sheet pockets are it always pulls it too tight and the latex feel changes completely! Very annoying.
I am not giving up yet but I am TIRED.
