I have been looking a Custom Sleep Design latex mattress. I like there idea & way of zoning but am scared of thier long delays mentioned on this form… I also like the sleep ez reviews but have not seen anything on latex zone matteress from them.
What would you advise for the layers (how many) & zones for a latex mattress.
I am 5’10" and 260 lbs single sleeper. Any info appreciated
Thanks
Hoss
Hi hoss,
SleepEz doesn’t offer zoned latex mattress and they believe that single layers in a variety of latex types and layer thicknesses are a more effective and cost efficient latex design in most cases.
Some of the other online members here though do offer a zoned latex mattress and there are many local manufacturers who do as well. Custom Sleep Design is a little different yet and offers a greater degree of customization with custom zoning rather than latex layers that are made with either 3, 5, or 7 zones in the layer itself but as you mention they are currently experiencing some delays in their mattresses and layer exchanges and are not currently as proactive in their communications with customers as they could be. This post (which you’ve probably read) has more about this.

There are some general guidelines about different types of mattress layering and construction here along with different body types here, and different sleeping positions here which can give you some basic information about the many variables involved with the many different types and layering of a mattress. They will also help you have more meaningful and informative conversations about your needs and preferences with the manufacturers themselves.
Beyond these general guidelines, Because of the many variables involved and the wide ranging preferences of different people, I leave the specific recommendations about mattresses made by different manufacturers to a longer and much more detailed conversation between you and the manufacturer themselves because they know much more about all the layers, components, and options of their mattresses and how they interact than I do, can take more variables into account with a longer conversation that includes the details of your local testing and your specific needs and preferences, and they also have a large customer base that has purchased their specific mattresses that can act as a reference point. Height, weight, and sleeping positions are not enough information to make the best possible recommendations for a mattress IMO and some local testing which give you better reference points and a longer conversation with the manufacturer themselves is much more accurate than “theory at a distance” that only takes very basic information into account.
Hope this helps

hoss - I suggest you contact Shawn at SleepEZ directly regarding zoned layers. While Phoenix’s knowledge is pretty much unparralled, you’re still best off asking the manufacturer directly. They’re not advertised on their website, but I know for certain that SleepEZ has access to zoned layers and has shipped them to satisfied customers in the past.
Hi LAsleeper,
Your answer is much better than mine … and you’re correct that SleepEz (and many manufacturers for that matter) can order anything they want (although they do prefer non zoned layers) and that it’s always better to ask the manufacturer directly
Thank you!

with all due respect, it’s much easier to pop into the game every once in a while and get a base hit than it is to go to bat dozens of times a day and hit a home run every time.
