Does unzipping latex mattress cover make a difference?

I have a new latex component mattress (core and comfort layer within a zippered cover) that feels a bit firmer than expected. I don’t want to panic right away and start getting into exchanges. Someone told me if I unzipped the cover (which is very tight) that might help a little bit. Does this make sense?

Hi Pspa123,

Yes, unzippering the cover on a component latex mattress system can allow a bit more flexibility and create a bit of a softer surface comfort, especially with systems that use “stiffer” mattress encasements (commonly cotton quilted to wool). Also, the new encasement itself should soften with use over time, and hopefully after 30-60 days your system will have lost some of its “false firmness” and the comfort will be what you desired. I would definitely try to give your new product more time before changing layer configurations.
