Dream Rest Pillowtop vs. Princess Medium @ Royal Bedding

So, I have been haunting Royal Bedding for a couple days now trying all their innerspring mattresses. Last time I was there I liked their Dream Rest Pillowtop, a lower-middle of the road mattress as they call it, and their Princess Medium, an upper middle of the road set.

I called today to get the exact foam densities, as you can see all the materials in the mattresses on their web site. Both are 13 gauge coils with 416 coils in a Queen. Turns out, the Dream Rest Pillowtop, which I have no doubt is better made than anything else at its price point in other stores, uses 1.6 lb firm foam and 1.15 lb egg crate foam (1 1/2" if I’m not mistaken).

Ginger said the Princess Medium would last longer, it is described as using “Quality premium plush foam padding - 3 inches are used on both sides - 1.25 ounce polyester pad used on both sides (1/2” thick, better than industry standards)". She said the Princess uses 1.6 lb density foam. It’s a little more expensive.

So, as far as which will last longer, I’m guessing the Princess Medium would; even though for some reason I sort of settled on the Dream Rest Pillowtop last time I was there (yet not enough to take the plunge and buy anything), I think perhaps the Princess Medium would be a better investment. I can certainly go try it out some more.

Haven’t been able to reach manufacturer about the materials in the other 2-sided mattress I found, What with today being a holiday I guess they’re closed. I tried it out again today and it seemed firmer than I remembered. Sigh.

Hi Vicky,

Thanks for the update

Not surprisingly I would agree with Ginger and as you know from your reading here higher quality/density materials and firmer foams will last longer than lower quality/density materials although as you mentioned both of the mattresses you are considering would likely be more durable choices than most of the mattresses sold by mainstream manufacturers in the same budget range.

I would also keep in mind though that both comfort and PPP (how well you will sleep on the mattress) as well as durability (how long you will sleep well) are both important parts of the “value” of a mattress purchase.
