I have been looking for a good bed for a little while now. I needed something comfortable, durable, and a reasonable price. I read that latex mattresses were highly regarded by heavy set people, and set out to look for one. Sheesh, they are pricey. I didn’t find MU until I was just about at the end of my search (I just couldn’t take the old bed anymore) and read many favorable posts about this latex hybrid. It has one feature that really swayed me: The removable foam in the Euro Top! This feature means that the bed can be customized, PLUS I may get longer life out of the bed as when one top breaks down, provided the foam underneath is still good, I can just order a new top instead of a whole new bed! Also, if I get the level of firmness wrong on either side, or both sides, I can just order a new top for a small fee instead of waiting several years for the bed to wear out. I read it is a good value at $999.
I placed my order, and as noted by other users, was contacted by Chuck. I decided that a level 5 would be best, because of our unique sleeping situation…I have a well over 6 foot, 400 lb boyfriend. I am 5’2" and 125 lbs. Our old bed was toooo soft. If he laid down on his side of the bed and I got just a little too close to the middle, my sleep was affected. Gravity would work against me. Even when I was overweight at 150 lbs, I just didn’t have enough weight to smash my side down enough to where I wouldn’t be affected. I would dream of our old Simmons which was much firmer than this most recent bed. I didn’t feel my boyfriend roll over, and had none of the problems that our most recent bed had. The Simmons cleared me of just about all back pain, BUT, I am a side sleeper and it hurt my hips and shoulders if I stayed in any position very long. After a while of that too soft bed, I would have gladly taken that hip and shoulder pain right back. I told Chuck I wanted a medium firm bed as I wanted the most firm mattress available that could still be used by a side sleeper. He said a 5 would be the firmest he would recommend for a side sleeper. I wanted something firmer for my boyfriend, but he just said he didn’t care, he would take whatever I got. Haha.
The process was very smooth. It shipped out Friday and was at my door Tuesday morning. I love how it comes packaged, so much so that barring any unusual circumstances, this is how all future beds that enter my home purchased with my money will be packaged. Lol. The long skinny box was way easier to lug up the stairs than a king size mattress would have been, especially since the stairs go about three quarters of the way up, turn and go up the final 25%. I had two boys carry it up there for me, and they had no trouble at all. They dumped it on the landing, where I proceeded to remove it from the box, and unroll it surrounded by my Christmas Eve crowd. It was about two inches thick in the plastic wrapping. I grabbed my scissors and went to town. I got it open, where it immediately started to take the shape of a very thick king mattress. I would say it hit 12" high just about immediately. I also laid back on it immediately, and it was already firm!
I did wait until Christmas day to move it into my room. We both laid down right next to each other after I got the sheets on, and would you believe it supported him? I would say he sunk in very little. There was no pulling me toward him at all. He is supported, my back isn’t being twisted toward him, I am supported, and I don’t notice any pain in my hips or shoulders. That being said, I haven’t spent a full 8 hours in it yet. I will try to lay there a little later in the morning. I have slept on it two nights so far, and I have to say I am pretty happy with it. It does what I am told latex will do: Allow the heavier parts to sink in, but not too far while springing up into the parts that curve in and supporting them too.
I do feel like this mattress is indeed a great value, and in normal circumstances I would buy it again. In my case, I do kind of regret not going with the Bamboo Bliss sold by Dreamfoam’s sister company Brooklyn Bedding because the Bamboo Bliss has a much stronger base foam that should be more durable. See, I posted on this forum, and then pulled the darned trigger before Phoenix replied that I might want a stronger base foam considering my boyfriend’s weight. This is a serious consideration that I missed because I got too flighty, and it is a consideration I would recommend other buyers to make. That being said, for most people, this mattress is a killer buy in my very early opinion.
I will come back and update every so often. If you want an update and notice I haven’t been here for a while, just let me know and I will be glad to share my updated thoughts.
