Hello! It’s been a while since I visited. You all, especially Phoenix, were very helpful in my search for a new mattress and bed, and I’m back to post a little update since I’ve now had the mattress for six months.
Long story short, I’m very happy with my purchase. I got the Ultimate Dreams 13" gel foam full size along with the Sleep Master steel frame platform bed from Amazon. I also am using the Luna Premium waterproof mattress protector and some very nice soft jersey knit sheets. For me, this is a winning combination.
I should mention that the first week or two involved a bit of an adjustment. My old OLD mattress and box springs was not very supportive and had really had it many years ago. So, I think my body had to adjust to actually being supported properly. Occasionally during the first week or so I would wake up with a slightly stiff back. I was a little nervous about that, but it stopped happening and has not happened since.
There’s no question I sleep much better than before. I don’t wake up nearly as often during the night and when I do, I return to sleep quickly. I do find that I wake up a little more often if I go to sleep on my side than on my back. I think for hours at a time, the mattress is a more comfortable back-sleeper in my case. So, I tend to go to sleep on my side and sometime during the night, I’ll roll over and sleep the rest of the night on my back.
I have a history of lower back issues and I have noticed that over the past six months, I haven’t had any significant lower back problems. Even if I “tweak” it a little, I tend to feel much better the next morning after sleeping on my Dreamfoam. It’s really something, and I’m very grateful for this!
Some concerns I’d read about prior to getting the mattress did not turn out to be a problem for me–
I don’t find that the mattress sleeps particularly hot. It’s summer now and I really see no difference in temperature comfort compared to my old bed.
Edge support is just fine. I don’t feel as if I’m going to roll off if I get too close to the edge. I do sleep alone, though, so I don’t spend a lot of time over there. Occasionally my cats will take over the bed, and I end up on one side or the other, but so far no problems with edge support.
Too firm/too soft – Nope, just about right. Truthfully, it wouldn’t bother me if it was a tiny bit softer, but I think the combination of support/softness is about as good as I could’ve hoped for. I kind of wish I could sleep on it without sheets or mattress protector. They do firm it up a little bit, but it’s still plenty comfy for me.
Other notes… I love the free shredded latex pillow Dreamfoam sent! It is so soft and the stiff neck problems I was having are a thing of the past!
The Sleep Master steel platform is a fantastic value and I highly recommend it. It’s so sturdy and quiet as a mouse. Inexpensive, too! Plus it folds up so small should you ever need to move it.
I love the fact that motion doesn’t transfer – my cats jump on the bed in the middle of the night and I sleep right through it!
Overall, I think this mattress is a wonderful value. The only thing I can’t comment on is longevity, obviously. I am rotating it head to foot once every six months. Should a problem arise, I will come back and report.
I hope this is helpful to someone considering this mattress. If anyone has any questions, please just ask. Thanks again!
