Ecosleep Model Comparisons

I’ve been looking at Ecosleep models as on obtainable latex mattress. I’ve been trying out latex mattresses in stores. Among them I tried the PLB Pamper (firm), Nature (medium), Beutiful (Plush). My preference is somewhere in between the Pamper and Nature, but I felt comfortable in both.

I’m cross comparing to Ecosleep and I know any comparison is really limited. What I’d like to know is the relative firmness of feel between these models.

Cassidy
2" 19 ILD Talalay latex
2" 24 ILD Talalay latex
5" 36 ILD Talalay latex

Revelation
2" 19 ILD Talalay latex
2" 24 ILD Talalay latex
7" 33 ILD Acella Flex Polyfoam

Obsession
1" 19 ILD Talalay latex
2" 24 ILD Talalay latex
7" 33 ILD Acella Flex Polyfoam

Edit:

So I don’t confuse anyone, I called Ecosleep and they said the top layers were actually 14 ILD & 19 ILD. Another member states they also asked Ecosleep and the answer received was that both layers were 24 ILD. US-Mattress says they’re checking as well, but I don’t have an answer from them yet. This industry is nuts!

Here are the specs on the PLB models that were my favorite for comparison. I think something in between would be perfect.

Nature
2" 21 ILD Talalay latex
2" 28 ILD Talalay latex
3" 36 ILD Talalay latex

Pamper
2" 21 ILD Talalay latex
6"40 ILD Talalay latex

I suspect the Obsession is the closest thing to what I’m looking for. Any thoughts on this?

What I’m not sure about is the base layer. The fact that it’s Polyfoam gives me pause. I’ve read the posts concerning Acella-flex. How might this hold up over 10+ years?

Hi wrngway,

Polyfoam ILD is a little firmer than latex ILD because it’s measured on a 4" thick piece of material instead of 6" which is the case with latex so I would say that the Cassidy and Revelation would be roughly comparable and since the top 4" of both of them are softer than the Nature I would say that both of these would be the softest of the group.

The ILD’s of the Obsession are slightly softer than the Nature but they are also thinner and there is a firmer layer underneath them so I would also think that this would probably be slightly firmer than the Nature but not nearly as firm as the Pamper.

It would depend to some degree on your weight and how much you sink into the upper layers but overall I would agree that the Obsession would be the closest to what you are looking for.

The base layers are not normally the weak link of a mattress and the acella-flex is a good quality 2 lb polyfoam so unless you are in a much higher than average weight range which would compress the polyfoam more than the norm I would say you will be fine in terms of durability.

Thanks for the info on the difference between poly and latex ILD’s. I wouldn’t have guessed that.

Having to go back to US Mattress as my first attempt failed, my options are limited. That said, I’ve learned a lot and with my experience now I feel like I’m making a much better decision. The good news is that it happens to be the same price as my last mattress, so the exchange fee will be limited.

There’s a lot of misleading and misinformation out there. Sometimes intentional and sometimes not. On the ecosleep line alone, I see what could be a few errors on the us-mattress website. If manufacturers could be upfront with the specs on their materials, this would be a much easier process.

I’ll likely go with the Obsession and give a report on it after a few nights. Compared to the other Ecosleep latex mattresses, there’s less feedback to go on with this model.

Hi wrngway,

It certainly uses good quality materials and there are no weak links in the mattress but of course it’s always a matter of your personal experience when it comes to knowing how well a mattress matches your body type and sleeping style in terms of PPP.

I’m looking forward to your feedback when you’ve had the chance to sleep on it for a bit.

Hi wrngway and phoenix,

I spoke with Ecosleep mattress, I was told that the 1" also has ILD 24

So is it really ILD 24 or ILD 19 ???

sayedhamdani,

Honestly, it’s an assumption that I wasn’t able to confirm. However, considering that every other mattress they sell has a combination of 19 ILD and 24 ILD if there are more than 2 layers, I would be surprised but wouldn’t discount the possibility.

I’ll call tomorrow to try to confirm. Their phone number is almost always busy and US Mattress doesn’t know. Ahh, the joys of mattress shopping.

My BMI body mass index number came as 22, According to spindle mattress , I need medium support.
Do you recommend Ecosleep revelation or Ecosleep Obsession ?

sayedhamdani,

I don’t know if anyone can tell you with any certainty. That’s the problem with ordering blind. Much personal preference comes into play. Sleep position is important as well. If you’re a side sleeper you’ll need more comfort padding. Back sleepers generally prefer firmer mattresses.

The reason I ordered an Ecosleep is because I already tried a mattress from US Mattress and am doing a comfort exchange for $99. So I’m stuck ordering from them for my 2nd choice.

You need some data points before proceeding. That means trying some out and knowing their specs. Your best bet is to try one out or at least something similar. That’s why I was at Mt. Vernon Sleep Center. There’s no guarantee that Obsession will work for me. It was my best guess in my circumstances.

One piece of advice though is to stay away from Sealy, Serta, or Simmons Beautyrest. They may feel good for a while but the cheap polyurethane foam will give out over time and the comfort support won’t be there in the long run.

If you’re younger and don’t have any back or shoulder issues you may not be as sensitive to these things as others of us.

sayedhamdani,

Well I just called for ecosleep ro confirm and they told me the ild was 14 and 19 for the obsession. That surprised me but also doesnt match what they told you. Is that the model you asked them about? I wonder if there’s a typo involved.

I asked the ild for 1" and 2’ latex layers lol
Something is not right or maybe the person did not have accurate info

I call tomorrow again

I am looking for ild 24 and above, To have medium support

which ecosleep mattress do you recommend ?

I tried to call today as well just to see what they would tell me but I didn’t get through.

Thank You Phoenix,

Are there any mattresses imilar to Ecosleep so I could test them out ?

And my pelvic area, I can put my hand underneath it (that’s how much space I have), Which post I may read so I can pick the right mattress for myself (lunbar support).

Hi sayedhamdani,

I don’t keep a list of the specific mattresses that are available in each area but the Baltimore list in the other thread would be the most likely possibilities I’m aware of in your area. You would need to call them and ask if they have any latex hybrid mattresses that have about 3" of soft latex in the top layers. The closer the specs of all the layers and components are to each other … the more similar two mattresses will “feel”

The tutorial post here has links to several posts that include the guidelines I would use for testing mattresses (they are part of step 4).

The pelvis would be in firm contact with the mattress (it’s the heaviest part of the body) but I’m guessing you mean the recessed part of the lumbar (the small of your back when you are on your back or the waist when you are on your side). If you can easily slide your hand under the gap with little resistance it generally indicates a mattress that the comfort layers are either too thin or too firm and you aren’t sinking in enough to fill in the gaps in your sleeping profile.

Here’s a wrap up of my experience with the Ecosleep Obsession:
https://forum.mattressunderground.com/t/ecosleep-obsession-review

I’m looking for a mattress again. The Ecosleep felt wonderful for a year, but as the support layers softened the lack of support threw my posture a bit out of alignment. Based on my experience so far I’m definitely considering Brooklyn Bedding. Overall, I’ve enjoyed my latex mattress, I just wish the support could last a bit longer.

Good quality materials are a must and I’m looking to try something a bit firmer. Based on the specs below, the Medium Brooklyn Bedding Best Mattress Ever seems like a good fit. It appears to be somewhat firmer based on the ILD, however has an extra inch of comfort material. Or maybe I should just go with the firm as I know comfort layers will soften over time.

Soft = 2" 19ILD Talalay Latex with 2" 30ILD Dunlop Latex
Medium = 2" 28ILD Talalay Latex with 2" 32ILD Dunlop Latex
Firm = 2" 32ILD Talalay Latex with 2" 34ILD Dunlop Latex

For comparison–Ecosleep Obsession = 1" 19 ILD Talalay Latex & 2" 24 ILD Talalay Latex on a 7" Polyfoam Base

The extra inch of comfort layers gives me some pause though as the problem is my bottom half sinking a bit too much giving me back pain.

Hi wr4ngway,

Thanks for the update. I’m sorry to hear that your mattress only lasted you for a year. It sounds like it was on the edge of being too soft for you so that even a relatively small amount of foam softening was enough to take you outside the comfort/support range that is suitable for you (see post #2 here).

The Brooklyn Bedding BestMattressEver would certainly be a great quality/value choice.

I would think that the medium would feel firmer than the Obsession but when you can’t test a mattress in person then the most reliable source of guidance is always a more detailed phone conversation with a knowledgeable and experienced retailer or manufacturer that has your best interests at heart and who can help “talk you through” the specifics of their mattresses and the properties and “feel” of the materials they are using (fast or slow response, resilience, firmness, motion transfer etc) and the options they have available that may be the best “match” for you based on the information you provide them, any local testing you have done or mattresses you have slept on and liked or other mattresses you are considering that they are familiar with, and the “averages” of other customers that are similar to you. They will know more about “matching” their specific mattress designs and firmness levels to different body types, sleeping positions, and preferences (or to other mattresses that they are familiar with) than anyone else.
