Engineered Sleep Classic Hybrid

Dear Mattress Forum Friends,
Engineered Sleep now offers their 10" and 12" Classic (Flippable Hybrid) in “Firm,” and “Extra Firm.”

These are the key differences between the 10" and the 12" in these offerings (primarily the 6" vs. 8" coils; and 1.8 lb 28ILD HD foam vs. 1.5lb 50LD foam).

10" Specs:

  • 6" Texas Pocket Spring; 14.75 Gauge with firmer sides; 800 Coils in Queen
  • Cushion Firm: 1.5", 1.8lb, 28ILD HD Foam Layer on each side
  • Extra Firm: 1", 1.5lb, 50ILD HD Foam Layer on each side
  • Organic Cotton Fabric Quilted with .75" foam layer; 1.5lb and 12ILD

12" Specs:
8" Texas Pocket Spring; 14.75 Gauge with 13.5 Gauge Sides; 884 Coils in Queen
Cushion Firm: 1.5", 1.8lb, 28ILD HD Foam Layer on each side
Extra Firm: 1", 1.5lb, 50ILD HD Foam Layer on each side
Organic Cotton Fabric Quilted with .75" foam layer; 1.5lb and 12ILD

Perhaps someone with some expertise, such as from Engineered sleep, could explain what the significance is, between 6" vs. 8" in these mattresses, why 10" vs. 12," and for a sleeper weighing no more than 140lbs, who prefers a firm mattress - what direction might be worth considering?

Basically I’m looking at either 10" in extra firm, or the 12" in firm or extra firm, but am hoping to get some input before I make a decision.

Thank you

@EngineeredSleep

Hi @Xav244 - the biggest (and only) differences are in the 6" TPS Spring and the 8" TPS Spring. The 6" Spring is slightly softer, especially when you weigh over 190lbs. The 8" Spring is a firmer spring.

We always want to make the shopping experience online as easy as possible and although weight is sometimes weird to talk about - it does make a difference when determining the firmness or softness of a mattress.

So, we wanted people to know that if they are over 190lbs then the Classic Hybrid 10" Extra Firm (or Cushion-Firm) may in fact not feel “Extra Firm” to them.

I hope this helps all the info make sense! Feel free to reach out to us if you have any further questions. Hopefully others will chime in as well!

Thanks for your reply. At the moment, I sleep on a traditional, flippable spring mattress. Very firm and I think what’s called a “tight top” in mattress jargon.
It held up for over 10 years. At under 150lbs, and still wanting a firm mattress, I’m debating between the ES 10" Extra Firm Classic Hybrid and the one or the other of the 12". What I wonder is, if the 12" Extra Firm would be appropriate, given my current mattress? That by, going to hybrid will already make things seem more forgiving, if that makes sense? Any additional guidance you may have on it is appreciated. Thanks again.

My top option for you would be the Classic Hybrid 12" Cushion-Firm. You get a upgrade in the Pocketed Coil and I like that foams feel better than the 50ILD in the Extra Firms (unless you really want it extra firm). If you just want FIRM then the one I just mentioned would be perfect.
