EOS pillow top or alternative?

Hi. I live in a rural area of Wisconsin, without any nearby stores to visit. We did go on vacation and stopped at a store that had Naturepedic, so had a chance to lay on those.
Our preferred bed was the EOS pillow top. Firm coil, med and soft latex layers. We liked it, but I can’t say we were blown away by it, it was just good. The cover didn’t seem particularly high end to me. The bed was comfortable, but again wasn’t blown away.
Our stats. Male, 6’3”, 200#, mostly side sleeper, some stomach, gets back pain if mattress is not supportive, shoulder pain if it’s too firm. Sleeps hot. Female 5’7”, 140#, mostly side sleeper, some back. Prefer natural materials.
Is there another mattress anyone would recommend based on those stats and the one we liked, if we can’t try in person? Thanks for any help you can provide, and let me know if more info is needed!

Hi Chwtom.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

The Naturepedic EOS mattress is certainly a green flag in terms of durability and one of our Trusted Members, @TheCleanBedroom even carries them. You may also wish to consider Obasan.

What is it you’re sleeping on now, and what are you hoping to get out of a new mattress?

Thank you, Nikki for the mention and the link.

The Naturepedic EOS is quite popular with our customers. One thing which may be reassuring, is that you can swap out a layer after purchase if needed - so you are able to tweak it a bit. Your configuration sounds like a good balance of support and cushioning.

I also wanted to mention that Naturepedic products are now 22% off on sale - since it is their 22nd anniversary and Earth Day is on April 22nd.

Nikki mentioned the Obasan mattress and I wanted to second that recommendation since you mentioned that you need support for your back and cushioning at the shoulder. With the Obasan system you can make the middle section that supports your hip and back firmer and your shoulder softer to help with that. You can read more here. Latex is a great material that conforms well to your body.

Our mattresses are all made from natural materials and come in a variety of price points. Best of luck with your search, and give us a call or a chat on our site if we can help.

Thanks!

It looks like the obsoban is a full latex mattress, yes? I think I’d be nervous about it being too hot. Are you aware of whether any testing has been done on heat retention of a full latex va hybrid mattress?

Yes, Obasan is a full latex mattress.

While I understand the concern, latex does not retain heat in the same way that memory foam does because a natural or organic latex contours but does not sink, if that makes sense. As a natural material, it would be more breathable as well, as long as you stay away from blended latex, which would include synthetic materials.

A hybrid will have a slightly different feel, a little more bouncy, so it depends on what you prefer in terms of feel.

Personal disclaimer - I sleep on an Obasan and find it to be comfortable. However, I have not slept on a hybrid, so I can’t compare the two.

To answer your question, I do not know of any research done comparing the temperature regulation of a hybrid as opposed to all latex. It would be interesting, though!
