European Sleep Design - Latex Firmness Equivalencies

Good Day Mattress Shoppers,

I’ve read and reread the Mattress Bible (aka: The Mattress Underground) until I can quote sections from it by memory. I know support cores, comfort layers and toppers, chapter and verse (in theory, not so well in practice).

My wife and I are in the Sacramento area and have tried Cal King beds in The Sleep Shop, Sleep Train, The Healthy Bed Store and European Sleep Design and have narrowed our search to the last two.

Our favorite beds are the: Savvy Serenity with topper ($5249) at The Healthy Bed store, and the Latex bed with topper ($3000) or the Norwegian ($3200) at European Sleep Design.

The Savvy Serenity is too pricy putting the other two beds in contention with Sleepez’s online latex beds.

These are my considerations.
• The Norwegian (3000 coils) is amazingly comfortable and I’ve read a post in the forums stating that the micro-coils “are not the weak link” in the bed.
o This is my concern. I have read that 100% natural Talalay latex in comfort layers is not as durable as blended Talalay. This bed has two 100% natural Talalay latex 1" layers above and below the micro coils and they are not repairable/replaceable as layers would be in the other beds. Given that coils by their nature act as pressure points (circles) on the latex I believe the latex is the weak link in this bed.
• The Latex is nice but comes in only four configurations.
o There are two levels of support cores (firm and soft) and two levels of comfort layers (firm and soft) giving four combinations in what European Sleep Design calls beds A, B, C and D.
• The Sleepez beds are cheaper and more customizable than the others but I can’t lie on them.

This is my question.
Does anyone know how the two levels (firm and soft) of support cores and two levels of comfort layers (firm and soft) at European Sleep Design compare to the soft, medium, firm and extra firm at Sleepez?

Thanks in advance for any comments, advice or help.

Michael

Hi Michael452,

The Radium 100% natural Talalay would be closely equivalent to their blended Talalay (they use a special curing paste for their 100% natural) and the durability of the latex layers wouldn’t be a concern for me over or under the microcoils.

There is more about the different ways that one mattress can “match” another one in post #9 here but these two mattresses are so different that you wouldn’t be able to match them based on specs and you would need to make more subjective comparisons based on your own personal testing or experience.

The Savvy Rest mattresses you tried would be the closest match to the SleepEZ mattresses so if you compare any of the configurations of the Norwegian to different configurations of the Savvy Rest then Savvy Rest configuration that feels closest to you would roughly correspond to the same configuration with SleepEZ so you could use the Savvy Rest as the “intermediary” to compare them based on your own experience and subjective comparisons.
