Experience with Arizona Premium Mattress

Just a note about my experience with Arizona Premium Mattress.

I have been lurking on the site for about 6 months and finally decided to order from Arizona Premium Mattress since I live in Tucson AZ. I spoke with Ken at length about their offerings and after having a full understanding of the different choices, I opted to buy a full size Adjustable Ultra Plush with the 6" medium support core and 3" soft comfort layer, both with the blended Talalay. It came with a bamboo cover and I bought the set, which included the foundation.

They delivered it last night (Sunday) and what a comfortable bed! I am a 210lb side sleeper laying on a pillow with my arm under it. My old Serta Perfect Sleeper pillow top was causing me to sleep in a curved position (sagging in the middle) to the point I was always tossing and turning. However, with the new bed, I got a great nights sleep last night. I didn’t realize how much pressure my hips were getting either until last night.

The service was excellent. I understood that it would take a few weeks to get the bed and they called to confirm delivery a few days before. He called when he just about here and he set everything up, which was fantastic.

I had forgotten to mention the MU discount when I ordered the bed, so they threw in free pillows. Very cool.

All in all, a great experience and I’m quite happy with the bed and even more happy about the service. Excellent communication from them and a smooth process all around.

Hi apenland01,

Thanks for letting us know what you ended up purchasing … and congratulations on your new mattress

As you know you made a great quality/value choice and it’s good to hear that your initial experience was so good as well.

I’m looking forward to any additional updates you have the chance to share once you’ve slept on it for a little longer.

Phoenix

Well after 2 nights, I’ve been able to answer a few questions.

  1. Will it stink? No, the only thing I smell is the detergent from washing the sheets (which should probably happen more than it does, but I’m a bachelor, so it is what it is). I’ve never owned a foam mattress of any kind, but my son slept on a memory foam mattress for about 6 years and it stunk for a few months after we bought it.

  2. I live in Arizona, so will it make me hot during the night? No, as far as temperature, it sleeps the same as my old Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress, which I guess is neutral. I was very happy about this because I was worried how it would sleep. It was only after reading everything I could about latex that I figured I would try it and see if it really slept cool, or at least not hot. This was another thing my son complained about on his memory foam mattress.

The longer term questions for me are whether the edge will break down quicker than the middle. I sleep in the middle, but sit on the edge to get dressed, change shoes, etc. Also, will the cover stretch out and get sloppy. It seems to be well made and the zipper seems strong enough, so only time will tell on both of these questions.

After moving it around a bit to put protector and sheets on, it is definitely much heavier than my old mattress. I guess that’s a good thing until I want to move it.

Again, great info and I appreciate the buying guide. I learned more than any normal person should learn about different types of mattresses. I wasn’t sure about buying a bed without laying on it first, but I’m happy with what I got.

I’m very sorry to hear about Onno, you have my condolences…

I just wanted to provide an update on this mattress. Ken at AZ Premium was right, it was too soft for my body weight. I slept on it for a couple of months and had to swap the layers around because I wasn’t getting enough mid-body support. Now the soft 3" layer is on the bottom and I’m sleeping on the medium 6" core. It’s much more supportive for my size and sleep style (215lbs and side sleeper).

Swapping the layers was easy in concept, but challenging due to the weight of the 6" core. It isn’t necessarily the weight that’s an issue, it’s the fact it isn’t really rigid and grappling it was difficult, since it was folding all over itself. However, once I got it in place, the cover went right back together and I was sleeping good.

I think the medium is going to be the long term answer and for me personally, my demand for “soft” and “comfortable” are different than the descriptions for mattresses. The medium firmness is plenty soft and comfortable. I’m glad I bought the adjustable layers that I could swap around.

Hi apenland01,

Thank you for your update!

I’m very happy that you were able to reconfigure your mattress to provide a better level of comfort. This is of course one of the advantages of a component mattress system. I’m happy that Ken at Arizona Premium Mattress was able to make a suggestion that worked well for you.

And thank you for your kind thoughts.
