Extra Firm Low Profile Innerspring Mattress NYC

I am searching for a queen size extra firm mattress that is 8-10 inches thick. Ideally an innerspring. I do not want any pillow top layers. I tried 3 options at mattress firm that overall liked but they are all a bit too thick for the bed frame I have. I am based in NYC and need to be able to try before committing. My wife and I are both small people and have both agreed we like a very firm mattress and find it the best to sleep on.

Hi mgashley27,
Welcome to the MattressUnderGround. We are glad to have you and thanks for your question.

New York is a big city with a lot of places to search for a mattress. There are some selections you can find at MF or similar showrooms or macy’s. The next question will be, is what they have to offer not only going to meet your personal preference and height requirement, but will it also stand the test of time.

You did not list any mattresses that you liked, so it makes it difficult to recommend an alternative since firmness is subjective, what you find firm, may be soft or medium to someone else. Original Mattress Factory has a half dozen or more mattresses that meet you criteria.

@EngineeredSleep has their classic line that offers an 8 and a 10" mattress in the firmer category.

@DLX has their essential series that is firm and comes in at 11"

If you’re hesitant about buying before trying, don’t let that hold you back from purchasing and having a mattress delivered. However, if you prefer to try first, depending on your budget, there are still several options available. Charles Beckley in NYC offers high-quality mattresses that are virtually depression and body impression-proof, tailored to your size preferences.

Another option is @ShovlinMattress in central NJ, conveniently located just a half hour from the tunnel or bridge. Orange Mattress, about 15 minutes from Shovlin, can also custom-make a mattress that meets all your needs.

While Mattress Firm mattresses may initially match your comfort preferences, they provide a different experience, quality and long lived option as compared to the other options mentioned. Ultimately, your choice will hinge on the balance of quality and durability you seek verses something may may have a short term.

Good luck on your search.

Thank you! this is incredibly helpful. currently leaning towards the engineered sleep as it certainly fulfills the height requirement. To clarify I tried a stearns and foster estate extra firm 13.5" (My favorite) A beauty rest pressure smart 2.0 extra firm 13.5" and a serta perfect sleeper sleep excellence. We purchased a slat bed frame from mdf Italia. We are in a small apartment and our bedframe size constraints were very specific. The 8 inch depth is to accommodate the aesthic of the frame itself. we currently have something that was made by blue bell for sleepys in 2015, some kind of gel layer, I despise it.

It is good you are looking at the Engineered Sleep. My brother has a Pressure Smart he bought because we complained the pull out couch mattress was killing our backs. You sink like the titanic after an hour on the PS due to the memory foam heating up and the cover stretching around the perimeter edge foam support, which is another back killer. I sleep at the edge of the mattress so half my body slept on the dense edge support foam and half on the main sleeping area of the mattress.

Can we have that couch back please!!

Well, no, not really, but our backs still kill us after a few days on the pressure smart, but sincerely, it is better than the pull out couch.

It takes us 3 or 4 days to recover when we get home from vacation.

Of all the S brands, the S&F is probably the best, despite them not telling you what your sleeping on.

The nice thing about Engineered Sleep is they will preety much make you anything you want, any size, any shape, if you need it.

I dont think you need to delve into the gels, grids, or marketing materials. Just a mattress with quality materials and simple construction.

Good to know about the pressure smart. There are way too many beauty rest options to figure out. We had slept on a beauty rest on vacation and loved it, but It was a European market one. Previously we loved a Kimpton but the one they sell does not appear to be the same. I liked the S&F but also read some reviews saying they did not hold up after an initial store demo.

I am hoping the engineered sleep is the answer. I had tried the parachute mattress and read somewhere that engineered sleep makes it for them, and of all the trendy brands (avocado, Saatva, etc.) I like it the best on a store demo.

I agree I just want something quality and simple, that has been my choice for most consumer products. Just getting harder and harder to find.

Hello mgashley27, and welcome!

There are a good number of innerspring mattresses at our showroom in NYC.
You could try the Vispring Devonshire or Coronet. We do have some firm latex mattresses - our Hudson line - and the Naturepedic hybrids can be customized to be very firm. They have all those in our showroom at 27th and 5th in Manhattan. Let us know if we can help!

I have actually been to your showroom before. I did not try a vispring, but want to come in next weekend.

Great! It’s a good time to shop during the 4th of July sale. I forgot to mention that the details of the Vispring mattresses are on this section of our website.
