final decision

after much exploration and instore trials and help from others at Mattress Underground, i i ordered a 3-layer latex mattresss from sleepez. they were quite helpful and generous with their time although they, like me., could not be at all sure of the ‘right’ .configuration. i think their final choice may be too soft but they have years of experience and i do not. we chose king solid top layer 3" soft blended talalay 19ld with plain cotton cover so i could feel the latex. then we split the bottom two 3" layers. one is soft talalay, one medium talalay, one medium dunlop & one firm dunlop. …i say all this in case someone who is reading might have a similar situation - i am 100lbs with significant back degeneration, - side and back sleeper. need soft top for pressure relief but firm foundation for support. sleepez just couldn’t be sure what i would ‘feel’ from the mattress given my light weight, they thought it best to provide 4 options for support layers which i could, with their input, reconfigure if needed. let’s see what happens.

Hi smichaels,

Thanks for letting us know what you ended up deciding … and congratulations on your new mattress

The layers you chose certainly give you many layering options available to see which one works best for you and I’m looking forward to your comments and feedback once you’ve received it and have had the chance to sleep on it for a bit.

i just cannot know yet. i have started with the soft talalay; medium dunlop; firm dunlop. first night was terrific. next 4 nights slept on a different bed, which is not supportive enough for me. now 2 nights on latex again, back & hip pain today. i am just going to live through whatever happens and wait it out a few weeks before i start driving myself mad with layer-changing…

Hi smichaels.

I would definitely give yourself a chance with a consistent configuration. With your significant back degeneration, it is possible the four nights sleeping on the alternate mattress with poor support could be having a negative impact on your current sleep.

I’m hoping you have a good outcome as time goes on and you adjust to your new mattress and it “adjusts” to you.
