After a lot of research and taking everything into consideration, I bought a king size Ghostbed last night. I had previously bought their foundation because there was a really good deal on it at the time and I needed one. I had not decided which mattress I was going to buy at that time but I could use it with whatever choice I made. Now all I need is a bed frame which I will have very soon.
Hi Napper,
Congratulations on your new mattress purchase! :cheer:
I’ll be interested to learn of your thoughts on the Ghostbed once you’ve had it in your home and have used it for a while.

I will give my thoughts on this now since a different post caused some confusion about which mattress I owned. I sleep really good on this Ghostbed but something does not feel right to me and the allowable ways to check for a defect will not show what I am talking about so I am returning it within the trial period.
Ghostbed as a company has been great to deal with from start to finish. Charities in this area will not accept mattress donations but Ghostbed offered me some different options. I will mention that the only negative was early on in the process when they told me their wood slat foundation was 3 inch spacing and it is actually 3.5 inch spacing. Not the end of the world but some mattress companies require 3 inch spacing or less between slats. Foundations are not returnable and some mattresses I considered would not be ok to use with this foundation. If I knew it was 3.5 inch spacing I would have passed and got something that would have accommodated most all mattresses. So I bought it based on being given wrong information and I am not sure whether I will keep it now.
I already have a replacement bed in a box mattress in transit to replace this one but I will hold off for a little while before commenting on it.
Hi Napper.
Thank you for the update and the clarification about the confusion from the other thread. I appreciate it.

I look forward to your next comments for the new bed in the box you have in transit. Hopefully, this will be the one for you.

First night on the new mattress last night, went to bed about 9 hours after setting it up. Without having them side by side for comparison, I can’t tell much difference between this and the last one but I woke up with 2 very sore shoulders from sleeping on both sides and when laying on my back it hurt too. Seems weird that it is so similar but it hurts and the other did not. I will be giving it more time but if it doesn’t work out, I am not sure where to go next.
Brooklyn Bedding would probably have been my next choice but they have been changing designs fairly quickly, almost like they can’t make up their minds as to which direction to go. I would prefer not to have to go through this several times because charities do not accept mattress donations in this area. The company had a mattress disposal service pick up the previous one.
Hi Napper.
Sorry to hear that your new mattress is causing you discomfort. As this is your first night sleeping on a new mattress I would agree with you and give it more time (to be by the “book” at least 30 days, for the mattress to break in and for you to adjust to it. I am not sure which mattress you now own as you’ve seemed to have changed quite a few, but I understand that it is a hassle to find a place in your area to donate it. Hopefully, you won’t need to do this.
Keep us posted once you had a chance to sleep on it for a little longer.

Phoenix,
This is only my second mattress. I would have kept the first if not for the issue I previously discussed. I have not mentioned the name of this one yet until I have given it more time
Hi Napper.
You are one of the “Rara Avis” on TMU as you seem to be very detailed with the research …. for me, with your over 70 posts enquiring about different systems sometimes it can get quite confusing, especially when I don’t know which bed you ended up purchasing.
Keep us posted!… I’d be interested to hear how the “no name” mattress choice plays out for you. ![]()
Good luck!

As someone about to make the plunge into an online mattress purchase I would love to know what you chose! Understanding that you can’t give a full review yet, and that how it feels to you won’t be how it feels to me, but other aspects are also good to know such as customer service, how the mattress looks/feels overall, etc.
Phoenix,
I realize you see a lot of posts on the forum and would not expect you to be able to keep up with all the specific details. The reason I have researched like this is to avoid a return but unfortunately I had to. Ghostbed firmness worked well for me and I slept great on it but I know that what I experienced had to be a defect but it would not show up with the process for making a warranty claim. As far as I am aware the actions to qualify for a warranty claim pretty much work the same for most mattress companies. Ghostbed was great to work from start to finish even when it was time for a return. I do not work for them and have no knowledge that anyone I know or am related to works for them. Just giving credit where credit is due.
Phoenix/JC2323,
The mattress I have right now is Nuvanna. They were very responsive and I have even communicated directly with the owner.
IMO, the Nuvanna is a great mattress… I was also impressed with the founder, Alvaro Vaselli and spoke with him at length right after the mattress was officially launched. I ended up returning it, only because it was a bit too firm for me and I couldn’t quite adjust to it as a 6 ft, ~220 lb side sleeper… from what I recall, I seemed to go through the top layer a bit too easily while the transition to the middle layer/core seemed too firm, so I ended up flipping over unconsciously from side to side during the course of the night (very much prefer to stay on my right side and tossing/turning is never good). Even with that, I appreciated the overall support of the mattress and that it had more “deep response”/bounce than the vast majority of bed-in-a-box mattresses out there (there’s no slow response memory foam in the construction) while maintaining the motion isolation of memory foam. The cover material and ticking were also very nice, even though I felt the mattress tended to sleep a bit on the warmer side (which I think was a function of the foam and not the cover/ticking material)… but that was just my experience and I don’t think sleeping warm is necessarily a common complaint. I suspected the middle layer of “memory foam” was quite dense and with no holes punched in any of the layers, some heat may have been trapped, despite the phase-change gel in the top foam layer (no current gels in use can replace good ventilation).
The Nuvanna is not the right one. I wake up sore too often with neck/shoulder pain. I have tried different pillows but that did not solve the issue. Not something I have experienced before. I am somewhat similar to Manimal, I am 6’1 right around 200lbs. right now and I am also a side sleeper. Looks like my next choice is going to be Silk + Snow.
