We haven’t noticed any temp. difference but we put a cotton mattress pad on top of it that we can take off and wash. It is a breathable fabric. We washed them in cold (or warm, I forget) when they came and hang to dry. You don’t want to dry them in the drier as it compromises the waterproofness. The fabric is like a stretchy knit. And it does stretch a bit for the pillowtop as the pillowtop is very thick.

My first night sleep, sleeping on my stomach is perfect, no complaints. However, I do sleep on my side as well, and it’s too firm,I had some pain in my side so I immediately flipped back to my stomach.
I still toss and turn in the middle of the night, I was hoping this would have me sleep through the night.
And the layer swapping begins…

That seems sensible. I would start right away on the swapping. They say you should sleep on it 30 days which is what we did but then you run out of time at the end. 90 days goes really quickly. Especially if they send you out the wrong thing.
I wish we had started right after we had got the first one and not kept trying it. When you sleep on a hotel mattress you either like it our you don’t after the first night. There is none of this getting used to it business.
What would be the difference of feel from latex to micro coils?
I think the Dunlop latex that they use has a “dead” feeling. Whereas the medium microcoil has a springier feeling where you float more on top of it.
My husband is currently on the Plush coils with the Soft microcoils. He feels it is too hard and is causing his arm to go to sleep on his side. I think he has the same problem I do with the soft bottoming out into the base coils.
However he loves the firm coils with two layers of soft microcoils. He does not have a back problem. I do and find this configuration does not offer enough support.
I am currently on firm base coils with soft microcoils in the middle and medium microcoils on top. I find it just a bit saggy and I think that is due to the soft microcoils in the middle. But when I tried them on the top it was too hard.
I am next going to try the firm base coils with two layers of medium microcoils.
Deux can give a better answer as he has directly tried both of Naturepedics comfort layer types.
i can’t over estimate the value of going to the store. you simply cannot adequately guess the effect of the different layers. the layer swap, while necessary to a point, are incredibly costly to naturepedic and unnecessarily wasteful. the layers can’t be reused or resold, and donation to charities of a PART of a mattress is likely useless to the charity and a huge wast of their limited time and resources to go pick up something that can’t be used. sure, the layer swaps might be inevitable, but mitigation in any way possible is a win.
that said, as marshmallow pointed out, and i’ve stated in my various posts, the latex feels somewhat dead , unsupportive and non responsive. kind of a sweeping nonspecific support vs pinpoint support. in store the latex felt right, but in practice, the firm latex was too firm and the medium was too undynamic. and all in all i found the latex too hot for my internal thermostat. i found the microcoils give a real dynamic pinpint support, yet a very cushiony feel, all while sleeping super cool. To use naturepedic’s words… “full body-contouring” “resist body impressions while providing comfortable pressure point relief” -and- “improve breathability and heat dissipation for a cool and comfortable sleep”. my config is plush support coils and medium microcoil. i cannot intelligently make any suggestions beyond that as the various combinations do not necessarily make sense to the brain as the layers in combination perform in unexpected ways.
if physically able, go to a store.
I’m going to respectfully disagree on the value of the store at this point. I went 4 times, some of those in between, the orders. While it is nice to see the product before buying it there is no comparison to sleeping on a layer.
I think the value of the store is prior to ordering to give yourself confidence that this is a product you are interested in. After you have the product the only way to know for sure is to layer swap.
I also don’t think the layers are that costly to Naturepedic. They have huge margins on the product. Especially when you look at how much it costs for a similar (non swappable) mattress at My Green Mattress or Joybed (not organic).
What do they do with the returned layers? I don’t know. But you can buy a similar latex layer on Amazon for $100 so my guess is their material cost is less than $50 for a latex layer and maybe even less for a microcoil layer.
Swap away. It is your right after having paid so much for your mattress.
Did you get any incentives from going through the store?
¯_(ツ)_/¯ i guess we disagree, but whether or not it’s your “right” needless waste of money or resources is disgusting in my opinion. not to mention the toll on my time for needless swaps. just because your careful analysis of their business and assume they have a “huge” margin still doesn’t mean we should wantantly waste. each layer swap likely costs them $200 by the time shipping, possibly return shipping, material cost and providing living wages to their employees. sure they’ve built this into their prices, but each layer swap probably costs them almost 10% of the retail price of the mattress, that margin quickly dwindles. as a business owner knowing how tight margins are in real life, always feel for business owners making good products and am always considerate to their bottom line. i found great value in visiting. sure my first choice turned out to be not to my liking, but a return visit to the store absolutely cemented my decision and proved a valuable resource. you’ve had your own challenges that absolutely necessitate swaps and fixes, but especially with the double layer the changes in layers can have deceiving results and my opinion still weighs a thorough visit to be invaluable.
I’m not sure how the tone of my msg got you so disgusted. In reality I am very grateful for your pointing out the plush coils with medium microcoils. I would never have thought to try it on my own and it wasn’t one the store suggested or set up for me to try.
In my first visit to the store I had asked about two layers of microcoils on the pillow top but they said it is not recommended and in their experience doesn’t work because the top layer tends to slide around so we never set that one up to try. In a subsequent visit I had them set it up but since they only have one of each (soft and medium) we were only able to try those configurations.
In reality my husband loves the two layers of microcoils on the pillow top and we do not find that they slide around. His firm/soft/soft cannot be tried in store. The do not have two soft microcoils. So if the OP thinks they want medium/medium microcoils they can’t show it to you at the store I went to.
In your experience the store visit was invaluable. In mine it allowed me to see the versatility of the product but has not really guided me toward the correct set of layers.
In addition, when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the Joybed short mattresses we received, the Naturepedic store said a short mattress would never happen with Naturepedic. I, in fact, got a short mattress from Naturepedic which made me look around for yet another manufaturer due to the time and hassle of yet again having to return/donate a twinXL that was only twin sized. Unfortunately I couldn’t find another latex free organic mattress that could be considered plush/soft so we decided to order a Naturepedic pillow top to address the too hard feeling from the classic.
This needless waste of our time and energy is where they are hurting their reputation and their own bottom line when they make a product not to specification and then label it as a twinXL.
All the layer swapping we have done to date has been within the mattresses we have because I don’t want to have a bunch of components rotating through that have to be returned. I felt this was a better approach and would give me more options to try than utilizing the layer swap but that was my own personal decision and I certainly would have been entitled to swap layers if I didn’t want to spend the extra $2600 for the pillow top that would allow me to do this.
My first swap layer from Naturepedic was ordered last Mon. and hasn’t arrived yet. With tax it was around $500 out of my pocket, which they will refund if I return it.
I am very hopefull for a match with either the plush coils with medium microcoil and medium microcoil or the firm coils with medium microcoil and medium microcoil. Neither of which can be tested in the store.
However, I would be remiss in not mentioning that a Happsy Organic Mattress without swaping capability can be had for king $1699 and is made with the same high quality organic materials. A swappable EOS classic is $3599. So yeah, I think they have plenty of margin built in to accomodate a swap or two and still operate their business. After all they created their business model and would have taken this into account. Also Happsy has 120 day trial with free return (donation) vs Naturepedics 90 day swap time/return(donation). I’m actually quite happy that they offer a lower cost option as I think everyone should be able to get a high quality organic mattress. So I am appreciative of Naturepedic’s business and hope they continue on, successfully, so that if I ever need a different layer in the future I can buy one. After all I’m hoping this is the last mattress I will ever buy.
I appreciate the both of your perspectives. It’s a real in convenience trying to make it to a store and I did extensive research before jumping into this.
Fortunately, I got my wife’s right. I am thinking a medium medium over firm is suited for me. I never tried the micro coils so I would hate to order all of those… that’s where a store would come into play to see how responsive it is.
The store provided the sheets,pillows etc. that’s the only thing I received.
Our layer finally came. Turns out if you don’t get a shipping confirmation on the day it is supposed to ship you need to call them and get it shipped. A week went by and no confirmation so I called and they had forgotten about it. The day I called it then shipped and we got it yesterday.
Last night I was on the firm coils, medium microcoils and medium microcoils. This wasn’t bad. It was a tad too firm but I had two separate times during the night where I was comfortable.
My husband was on the plush coils with soft microcoils and soft microcoils. He liked this and slept well.
Tonight I am on the plush coils with medium microcoils and medium microcoils. I liked the Classic version of this (plush coils/medium microcoils) but it was a tad too hard. I’m hoping that the additional medium microcoils gives it just that extra plushness that I need. I also liked the firm/medium/medium in the pillowtop (but gain just a tad too hard) so changing out the firm to plush should do it. Crossing my fingers that this is the final configuration for me.
Then my husband has to decide if he likes firm/soft/soft (tonight’s configuration) or plush/soft/soft (last night’s).
Still frustrated at the too short beds. We measured them again after putting them together and it looks like 77" is about the length. We recently took a road trip and were on 5 different mattresses at various hotels. All were proper length. I really miss having an 80" mattress. Do either of you have an 80" mattress? Does one have to order a queen or king to get it?
Both of you are testing the pillow top? I thought you have the classic as well, the classic is two layers, correct?

We have a classic and a pillow top. To use the classic as a pillow top we put the extra layer I got through the swap program on top of the classic. But under the bed bug cover and mattress pad. That didn’t work very well as you could still feel the coils through the mattress pad. So last night we left the top of the Classic unzipped and just folded it over the two layers of microcoils. This simulated a pillow top. The bed bug cover and the mattress pad held it all together.
We will probably swap out the classic encasement for a pillow top and pay the difference. I talked to Naturepedic about doing this when I ordered the swap layer and they were OK with it.
